Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Styleman fashion question for OCP

I wasn't lucky enough to have mug like Brad Pitt but one thing that years of cycling has given me the legs of a sprinter (or middle linebacker, take your pick). And like Zsa Zsa Gabor once said, if you've got it baby, flaunt it. But today's shorts are so long they practically reach my knees, covering everything. What happened to shorts that are, well, short? Most shorts I find today have 9-10" inseams. I have an old pair that has a 6" inseam that seems about where I'd like them but I only see tri gear like that now. So I was discussing this state of affairs with a friend and suggested that I was considering buying 6" tri shorts and matching sleeveless jerseys even though I don't do triathelons. He was convinced that I would look like the new cyclist member of Team Village People. Since I don't ride for that team that might be a bad thing. So what do ya'll think? - stylish? - tres gauche? - too much for the local Starbucks? too 70's retro (unless I'm riding my 72 Bottecchia)?

Stick with the longer shorts. They're in style for a reason. Stick with black too. That's the standard for a reason too.

If it's really that important to you, Speedos are accepted in tri circles as well.

Short shorts are in this summer actually, especially with the girls (no complaints!)

Certain bibs are just long, others aren't. PI bibs might as well be pants... they're ridiculous. Giordana's on the other hand.....

Just kidding about the dancing guy above in the bibs - I haven't worn bibs since I was 2 and if I needed them to hold my stomach in we wouldn't be having this conversation anyway so it's shorts for me

Someone called me?

As the self-appointed "Style Man" of BF, let me address your question.

Sleeveless="Hello. I'm a wife-beating trailer dweller"
Look, the 'guns' are your legs, not your arms. Leave the sleeveless for dust rags.

Short shorts? Pa-leeze. If it really bothers you that much, first of all you need to flip it. And I'm not talking about your stem. Flip the elastic portion of the bottom of the legs up. It's all the rage these days anyway!

Check some of the triathlon shops. Triguys love their short shorts. Whatever floats your boat, but please don't ride in front of me.

Some tri clothing has material in the last place you'd expect it. This week I saw someone riding with a jersey get up that had arm warmers, no shoulders and a swoop kneck. If you're looking for something out of the ordinary, I would suggest checking out those clothing shops and websites.

I don't think you should care too much about what's cool. But make sure you're careful about sun exposure. Tan is not healthy, it means your skin is dying.
