Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Where is SRAM Rival Made?

I know that SRAM has factories in Taiwan, Germany and the US. I'm curious what parts, if any, of their Rival group is manufactured here in the States.

I don't know about Rival, but some internal parts of Red are milled in Timmonsville, SC, which should be a forgein country of its own.

Sort of what I expected not having seen the packaging. Don't think SRAM acquired Avid, Truvative, etc. just to move production from Taiwan to the US.....

Very admirable except USA makes nothing in quality bike components. Taiwan is much better quality than China junk. Taiwan listens and understands input from euro and USA based manufactures, china does not.
Some lower end shimano is made in china as is mavic.

I'm not bagging on you, spend your money the way you want, but it seems odd that you want to support America but only if it is manufactured in America, completely ignoring that it is an American company with profits, and I'd assume engineering, in America. Where it is manufactured is only a part of the equation.

LOL...Taiwan is part of China, Einstein. you can't make these generalizations, Taiwan has high volume, low quality manufacturing too for some items, China has factories that can make parts to any standard of QC.

I'll see if any Asian forums have guys posting about how the good stuff in America is made in Oklahoma, not Rhode island.

Don't tell that to the people of Taiwan. Taiwan is an independent Republic and has no part of the Chinese government from Beijing.

It is considered by many that after the Olympics, after Beijing has been all chummy with the world and, in some way, the world may be in a temporary 'we owe you for hosting the olympics so well' spell, that canons will be pointed directly at Taiwan and an ultimatum or invasion will take place. Watch that space!

Prendrefeu,

I think the time is definitely coming when China makes military moves to recover Taiwan. The US is fully committed to protecting Taiwan in such an instance. Over the last few years China has been building up its military. Most recently they purchased 48 Kilo class subs from Russia and have been testing anti satellite technology. This is the perfect offense for the way we would defend Taiwan - with aircraft carriers and satellite guided weapons. They have also been practicing invasion manuevers off of Taiwans' coast. I think a conflict with China is not out of the question and I would prefer not to strengthen their economy anymore than I do already.

+1,000 - When I lived there saying that could have gotten a man beat up in parliament.

Taiwan is NOT a part of China.

....and not to get into politics, but I too believe that a Chinese invasion of Taiwan is definitely on the horizon, and it would reflect very poorly on the US if they let a communist nation roll over an un willing Democratic Republic that has been an ally since WWII...just because some of us have been putting US assets on Chinese soil lately....

I think it's only a matter of time before China takes it back by force. Although the west has vowed to defend them.

Lets hope cooler heads prevail.

Alright, let's not get into politics of who f*cked up when with anything... Afterall, the Reagan administration supplied Iraq with chemical weapons, blah blah blah... the list of governments ******** over other governments in an effort to "keep peace" can go on forever...Doesn't matter who did what or when, nearly ever major-power government has screwed up (or in the case of a few, continues to screw up) regardless of who is in power when.

back to the discussion at hand - spessx, i respect your intentions. i think it'll be hard, but good luck with your efforts to put your funding in its right place. i sincerely mean that. (bare in mind the moral alluded to in the afore written paragraph).

Anyway, SRAM is a good group. Shimano is a good group. Campagnolo is a good group. We love to ride bikes....

Really? Let's be honest here - the US hasn't reflected well to the world since the end of WWII in anything. It's been getting worse, decade by decade, year by year... month by month now... in how the world views it as an active government (and sadly, society) in the world.
