2006 Lemond Tete De Course
Hi all, Im new to road biking and am looking into buying a used bike. Ive found a really good deal on a 2006 Tete de Course, however I have a few concerns. The frame has around 1500 miles on it, and the components probably double that. It is a really great price, however, is that a lot of wear for a road frame and components? The bike has been well cared for by an avid rider. Anyway... let me know what you think.

does it fit you? that is the most important. 1500 for frame is nothing, 3000 for components if well taken care off is no problem either. ride it first and see how you like it.

I have ridden other lemonds, but not this frame... they are my favorite in comparison to cannondales, treks, scotts, etc. im just worried because im a pretty big guy, 6'4" 210 and I dont want to kill the frame.

If you buy it, consider having it painted. Rad's is apparently almost done and we need another quest-frame.
Seriously though, that's less than a years riding - you could get 10 times that as long as you don't beat the hell out of it.

As has been said, that's a great deal - 3,000 miles is no more than a year old for an avid rider.
Only buy it if it fits though. If it doesn't, it's not worth anything.

What would you do if you went to a yardsale and saw a used lemond tete de course leaning on the house...
you ask the owner "how much for that nice looking bike" they say... "well, my son raced bikes for a while, but he is gone, so we are trying to clear some of the mess up... if you want to buy this bike, you will also have to get THIS one too... and they show an older GT road bike... 97 rave, if i remember correctly..."
so you ask how much for both of them (as you get kinda scared while waiting for a response)
the answer shocks you... "how about 300 for both and we'll throw in an old tire pump and extra tires..."
What do you do in this case?

that's a titanium and OCLV spine tech bike right?
buy it. It will take your weight. That's an awesome frame. I have the 06 Zurich in the ox plat and carbon version.
That's an awesome frame. I think the frame alone retailed for over $1500 new.

One thing: look very carefully at the dropouts. LeMond's Ti frames have an uncanny ability to have problems with cracking at the dropouts.
