Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Too short to qualify as a real hill. But nice, short and sweet.

^^ No, it's a hill just not a "climb." If I'm reading the numbers on your graph correctly, it's about 475 feet gained over 1 mile, which would be a 9% gradient. That's not that tough for such a short distance but you could certainly make a good interval ride out of it. I'd run your cassette on it (e.g. go up in 26, then 23, then 21, then 19, etc. and then go back from 12 to 26 again).

yes. It's all relative. There are mountains every I look where I live. But "hills" is monosyllabic; Mountains isn't.

That's a hill, to me. To a Floridian, for example, it's a Mountain. Then there are shades of gray.

I rode the old Murrysville Classic course over the weekend which climbs the "hill" on Hills Church Road then up the two hills on Cherry Road. The 3 combined are known as the Triple Banger. Let me tell you. They are climbs. I have climbed the mountains in Georgia (Brasstown, Hog Pen Gap....etc....) so I do know what a climb is.

Gary you probably rode right past my house. I live on Old Wm Penn Hwy, just down from Hills Church Road. I was out riding over the weekend also, but headed in a different direction....

I only saw 2 other riders all weekend. I was pretty surprised by that especially seeing how nice the weekend was and that the Collegiate races were in town.

Yeah, that first kick looks like 350 feet in 1/2 a mile, which would put you at 13.5%. We have one of those here, and about four that are close to that. Hill repeat time

That's two more riders than I saw. I rode Friday evening, Sat afternoon and sunday morning. Didn't see a single rider. Lots of 'fair' weather riders in my area. Not many riders when the temps are below 50...

I met a buddy of mine on Saturday and we rode out of Imperial PA down towards Steubenville WV. We got engulfed by this snowstorm while we were riding through this little valley that was made up of a single lane road and these rickety wooden bridges. It felt like we were riding through a Graham Watson picture.....
The fair weather riders have no idea of what they are missing.

Those hills are amazingly consistent. What's the deal with those? Is there some unique geological formation or something?

I thought it looked strange also when I first saw it but then compared the same ride to others on motionbased and it was the exact same.

Another rider on motionbased on the same ride.

Well graded mountain pass is my guess.

The O.P.'s hill at mile 7 would qualify as the biggest beast in the inventory around here (Ohio St. in St. Paul).

Want a decent ride?

Start at Bedoin and do the South face first and then over the top to the bottom at Malaucen and climb the North face. Then if you are feeling brave- and have any energy left-back to Bedoin about 15 miles along the valley to take the gentle route back to the top. Then time for breakfast. Only 15,000ft climbing in 100 miles but as you can see from the 3rd photo- the scenery gets boring.

And the measurements are Metric.
