Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Record cassettes sure are purdy!!!

I managed to run campy for almost four years and always convinced myself that I just didn't need to spend the money on record cassettes. I have always been able to just run centaur and the occassional chorus and be happy. Well, that was until sometime in the last week or two. I finally decided to order my first record cassette. I ordered a 11-21 cassette. Well once I got it and realized how light it was I decided that it wouldn't make sense to have the light cassette only for flat rides. Therefore I ordered a 12-25. Then it occured to me. What sense did that make? I should really have a light cassette for those rides / races with a lot of climbing as well right? So I ordered a 13-26.

Basicly, I went from owning no record cassettes to owning three of them over two weeks time. The good news is I think I have all my bases covered.

You can send me your non-Record cassettes :-)
I just ordered a Veloce from PBK because other than Record, it's the only one with a 12-23 (as far as I can tell)

Actually I haven't spent that much out of pocket. I've sold some bike goodies that have just been setting around the house collecting dust. By the time all is said and done I will actually pay for my recent shopping spree plus put about a thousand on my credit card leaving me with only a couple hundred dollar balance.

Are you using a SRAM cassette with a campy drivetrain? If not I don't understand why you would be replacing a SRAM cassette with a campy.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with Shimano. Campy hoods just fit my hands better.

I'm just trolling.

The one thing I don't like about Record is the change in tone between the steel and ti cogs; very distinct. I wish I could justify all ti.

Yeah, I couldn't justify the all ti cassettes. As much as I would love to I just can't do it. Now, if I only needed one cassette then I would probably give one a shot.

By the way I meant the change in sound. One shift and it sounds like CLINKCLINKCLINK instead of CHUCKCHUCKCHUCK.

KCNC!, 1 piece, lighter than campy, cheaper than campy, and just as smooth.

I almost bought one of them and then I started checking out the reviews. They were very mixed. Some people were only getting 100 or so miles out of them before they started breaking teeth off.

I was able to get the 11-21 for $110 shipped off of road bike review and I was able to get the 12-25 for $120 shipped off of ebay. The only one I bought new was the 13-26. I probably could have been patient and found it on ebay as well but I want it for my ride this weekend.

Shimano is not worthy of being adorned with such grace and beauty.
