New Road Bike user-LOVE IT! Trek 1600...
After much debate... lots of reading and some test rides I came home with my new Trek 1600 last week. Now after 3 days of riding and a little over 100 miles on my new bike... I'm LOVING it... Thanks to those who replied to my two posts and for all the past info and posters. I thought I was going in for a new hybrid... but decided to "test out a new roadie just for kicks". I ended up testing the Trek FX7.2, FX7.3, FX7.5 (the 7.6 was out of stock).... along with the Trek 1000 & 1600. ALL bikes are superb bikes. However I'm thrilled that I came home with my roadie. Now, I need to figure out what accessories to get ... 1st upgrade will be a much better front light (probably a rechargable???).... and carry pump....
btw... we picked up an FX7.3 for my wife and she's loving her new wheels as well...
... out the door for a ride...

I have to say, the photo makes it look like it is bolted to your wall by the seat post...

Ah, that looks like a FIREPLACE!
Please review bicycle picture requirement #38c on page #289 of the official 2007 BikeForums.net Bicycle Picture Reglation pamphlet #VKL-9. You are clearly only allowed to use your garage door as your backdrop. Such bad form!
Seriously, it's a good looking machine for sure. I'd take it over a hybrid - good choice! Now get out there and see what she can do.

I'm looking at the same bike, going for a test ride this weekend.
Mind if I ask how much you paid for it?

Congrats. That's a sweet ride. Once you visit your Trek dealer and see the new 2008's you'll be laughing your way home to your 1600. My significant other started with a hybrid but has since switched to a road bike so that we can ride together...

Nice! Those are some mean looking wheels.
I definitely agree about the bottle cages. At the risk of sounding stupid, you have cycling shorts right? You did say "new." I was stupid when I was new and rode without them for a while. No one told me they had padding. . .

You've broken so many OCP rules!
Your speed sensor was probably meant to go on the back wheel. That's a lot of wire wrapped around the fork.
That's the biggest rear reflector I've ever seen. If you want one then get a light/reflector that mounts on your seatstay. It'll be easier to put a bag under your seat.
If you want reflectors on your wheels then maybe try reflector tape. Those factory reflectors do wonders for your wheel balance.
Front skewer QR yshould face backwards.
Whenever taking a picture of your bike, always put it in 53/11
Flip it!
After taking the wheel reflectors off, put the speed sensor magnet opposite the presta valve for better balancing.
Get some clipless pedals!
have fun!!

yay! youre gonna love that thing. i bought mine 3.5 months ago, put close to 1400 miles on her, and just upgraded to a Blue RC4 this week. I felt so unfaithful as I placed the Trek1600 frame in my garage, stripped of all her parts. LOL congrats on your new ride

Thanks guys... some hysterical replies too... fun stuff
ok... I'll try to answer things in one post
NOT bolted to the fireplace... but funny ... That little bracket is what connects me to my youngest (4yr old) so I can yank her around behind me... btw it's not connected to the cabon post...
Nope no shorts... none needed for now soon maybe...
Regarding pics... I must have missed the background requirements... My wife will be putting up with my 1600 taking up space in the house. I'll compromise though and keep it somewhere else other than the fireplace... maybe it'll stay safe on the living room sofa...
Yep... thank you... water brackets/bottles will soon be on... along with a quick connect for easy seat removal, rechargeable front headlight, and pump... any other suggestions? seriously... tell me... thanks
Regarding 08' models... YES, I'm absolutely thrilled I bought the bike I did. The 08's look pretty but I noticed the new models and lesser components the other night for the first time. Great new colors but the bikes appear to be slightly less equipped for more money. LBS told me the 08's would be priced higher by a good amount.
The bike shop put on my speedometer... I hope it's ok ... This one will come off and be moved to my wife's FX3. I'm already shopping for one with a few more options. She doesn't want one... but she'll soon have one. The new one will be wireless... I agree with the cord look....
"Whenever taking a picture of your bike, always put it in 53/11" I always gear down coming into my drive... I'll be sure not to do that next time I'm going to snap pics...
"Front skewer QR yshould face backwards." I'm a newbie.... forgive me... huh??
Another 30 miles put on tonight... cut a little short due to rain moving in...

Though 4 bikes later means I had to give up an organ or two.... or three... WELL worth it... We talk about a million things with my kids while we're riding... just another way to get out with my kidos...

Welcome! You sound like a really great guy. I hope that you and your family develop a lot of great memories (and fitness) with this sport. Life is a short scene and cycling can really spice things up.

Helmet
Seat wedge (bag) - expandable
Extra inner tube
Roadmorph frame pump
Tire tools
Small road tool kit
Tube patch kit
Rear blinking light instead of reflector
FlightDeck computer (not wireless) for the gear display and virtual cadence
Gloves
Heartrate monitor (watch type so you can use it off the bike as well as on)
Bike shorts
Bike jersey with rear pockets
Arm and leg warmers
Rain gear
I have one of the big rechargeable lights with double light bulbs on my hybrid.
If you are not riding fast at night, any of the battery Cateye lights work fine. You just need to be visible. I use a very small, almost chewing gum sized, Cateye that is either a solid light or blinks on my road bike. My boys use the EL300 as it illluminates the road a better.

I use a CygoLite CygoLite Night-Rover NiMH Headlight on my hybrid and it lights up the world! It's about $80 at Perfomancebike.com.
edit-- Went to confirm price and they are having a 15% off sale plus Free Freight on orders over $75 right now.
