Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Starting a High School Cyling Club

at Woodside High School...California
does anyone have any advice?
there don't seem to be very many around the nation.

I am going to get insurance covered by US Cycling. It covers road-mountain-track- and bmx I think.

if anyone has anything I should know-please tell me

You would think that in a school of +2000 finding 10 to start the club would be easy-I got a teacher advisor-

I need one more kid-I'm sure I find one-I just started recruiting today.

let me know if there are any other highschool clubs around (san meteo county, CA)
or any in your area that are doing some thing cool-I am open to suggestions.
thanks

There is a high school coach on MTBR.com. His screen name is BerkleyMike, I know he can give you all the info you may need. Here is a link to him. He has been very active in starting the highschool team where he teaches. Good luck, its a great thing to do.

There's some good information at https://www.norcalmtb.org. The league has been growing every year, and they would welcome a new school in the league.

If you do a good enough job you may be able to an LBS to help you out with some of the funding as you will have to pull teeth to get the school to support you. They might have some cheap/used/old racks to lend/sell/give. Beyond that your pretty much limited by money; the actual construction is the easy part.
