Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Kit or plain

Do you wear pro kits or plain jersey? I think Pro kits look the best.

I don't wear pro kits because I'm not a pro. I didn't EARN the right to wear them as the team members did.

I don't mind what anyone else wears. I like to wear 'vintage' team jerseys.

My favourite for winter (Here in Australia) is my fleecy lined Gan jersey.

Ususally wear stuff from a couple of old teams I rode for. Do have a few plain jerseys from the unattached days. Somehow riding in Team gear seems a little tacky. Although I have to agree with mezza about the vintage stuff. Kind of neat to see someone show up for a ride wearing an old Z jersey, or a 7-11.

You should have made this thread multiple-choice. I think about half of my jersey collection is plain, about half are BF's, Beer, etc and I have one pro-team (Health Net) jersey.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not into the "hero worship" thing of wearing jerseys from pro teams. Same goes for people wearing baseball & football jerseys with pro names on the back.

I wouldn't be opposed to wearing a Sierra Nevada jersey since they make great beer, but otherwise, I don't do commercial endorsements for free !

What is your favorite? Plain jerseys cramp my style. My favorite is my bike shop jersey.

I have a random mix of plain stuff, event jerseys, one pro team jersey, a high-viz yellow jersey (for commuting). I've got some shorts with my bike shop logo, and some that are plain black. So, I don't know what to choose on the poll....

Depends whats clean. I have a couple of kits from the team I ride for and when possible wear those, otherwise plain or the one GD KOM jersey I have.

I have:

2 plain jerseys (1 long 1 short)
1 Spaghettios Jersey
1 Froot Loops Jersey
1 Shrek Jersey
1 Diabetes Tour de Cure Jersey
1 Team Jersey (Selle Italia)

I prefer the 3 silly jerseys but that's just my character

I voted plain, but really depends on my mood. I ride in my BikeForums jersey fairly often just to show it off. Plus it is the brightest color short sleeve jersey I own which is good for smaller group rides for visablity.

Here's my newest "plain" jersey that I bought Friday night for the HHH yesterday:

I wonder what the pros would wear if they weren't being paid to wear jerseys advertising their sponsors.

Are you that uptight about it?

I'll wear anything as long as I'm comfortable. I have pro jerseys in my drawers and I could care less if I am not the strongest rider in the world. They sell them for a reason; so people like myself buy a few.

I voted other. The USAF as a cycling team that does the RAGBRAI every year. It is made up of 100 riders and a similar sized support group. I haven't done the RAGBRAI due to scheduling issues but I have the kit for each of the last three years. It isn't a Pro cycling team but I do represent the USAF on a regular, say 24/7/365, basis so I figure I'm not going out on limb regarding poseur status. The matching jersey, shorts, socks, and gloves do start down the road to true OCP-dom but I figure I have to get my bike painted to match the jet to really go off the deep end.

I like to buy Jerseys from stores I visit while travelling for work. I have them from all over the world, as long as I like the stores design and the brand it is made on I buy them.

There are not many PLAIN solid jerseys for sale that have a good fit, they are usually for big gut fits.
