Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Online ride mapping / elevation profiles

Getting back into riding after about a 10 year hiatus, and starting to feel good again. Looking for an online resource that would help plot both ride distance as well as elevation profiles...curious about the local climbing opportunities...

Anyone have a site they like?

I've found mapmyride to be unreliable for elevation purposes, at least total climbing over a ride. Their calorie estimator also seems to be wildly inconsistent.

I just tried routeslip. Autoroute seems to break if the route goes out, wanders around a bit and then returns on the same road. It's not an out and back course, only the last road is in common. The error is that the path doesn't follow the road, it goes point to point. Mapmyride doesn't have this problem.

Thanks guys,

looks like a few good options, some of which work a bit faster than others, but nice to double check. Now to check some distances and grades.
