Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I hate my glove tans. At least the jersey tan is gradual since i roll my jersey up various ammounts on every ride, but the gloves leave a perfect line from dark as hell to pasty pale.

It's a badge of courage.

You need a new friend...

Yes, after seeing what the pavement did to my gloves at 25 mph, I'm glad it wasn't my hand and will always wear some form of gloves.

riding in high school taught me the value of gloves. Way to many days coming home with skinned palms. I have some wonderfully destroyed gloves from my motorcycling too. ;-) Now if there were just some decent looking leathers to wear while riding...

Oh really? Any evidence to base this claim? Just curious.

I can only wear gloves if they DO NOT have the gel padding. that stuff makes my hands ache and eventually numb. But if they are " pad-less" then yes I can wear them. For me it depends. if I am doing a long ride I will wear them but if Im only going out for hour or two then usually they stay in the drawer.

I've offered first aid in an event where that wasn't the case. I'll spare you the awful details... the victim's injury was kind of hideous and could have been completely prevented by gloves. It was bad enough for him to quit the college team and never be seen again on two wheels. He may have very well had lifelong damage to his right hand and he was only 20 or so at the time.

If he lives to be 85 that's a lot of years to suffer for a few stupid moments of youthful indiscretion.

RESULT: I will always wear gloves.

SUMMARY: The younger you are, the logically more important it is to wear gloves. If you're old, it's less important.

I always wear gloves when i go out to ride. Now, I don't wear them when i'm just riding to class, but when i go out to ride my bike I wear them.

Also, My arms are very hairy, so the glove tan line isn't visible. :-)

This is a family show...

Basically, I needed to flip a large portion of the victim's palm back into his hand and apply direct pressure to stop or slow bleeding.

That was all she wrote for him. Out for the season, out the next season and maybe out forever. AND ALL THE EXTENSIVE INJURIES WERE TOTALLY PREVENTABLE.

Always & all Kevlar mesh

Always wear my all Kevlar mesh industrial gloves with gripper dots. Works on the motorcycle for trail riding, works on the bike on or off road.

Cost less than some bike gloves, mesh ventilates, lets some sun through, gipper dots really grip, & they last a long time. Oh yes, very 'handy' in crashes as well as handeling sheet metal & glass.

I wear half-finger gloves on EVERY ride. Love them. I am ashamed to admit that I washed my gloves (purchased last July) for the first time a week ago....a full year (minus winter months) and those things were FOUL smelling.

don't fell that bad.

I haven't washed my gloves in 3 years. Although, I did get caught in a few downpours, so I suppose I have washed them (involuntarily)

I wear gloves. I have seen what happens without gloves, not a pretty sight. Plus if you ride through stuff you can wipe the wheel while moving. Try that without gloves.

P.S. I think going down on asphalt is much worse then going down on gravel.

The one day when I left the gloves at home was the one day when I went down hard on a muddy turn. Deep gouges in the palms.
