Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rocky Mountain Solo 50ST: Experiences..?

My local LBS pushes this brand of Canadian bike pretty hard. The Rocky Mountain Solo 50 ST a road bike with a mostly-steel frame and a carbon fiber rear triangle. It actually did fit quite well, rode smooth, decent power transfer (I might prefer the feel of an all-CF frame, I test-rode a Trek Madone 5.2 and drooled back to the shop)...but I can't find a review of the RM Solo frameset or this stock bike online (their MTB products seem to be their focus and their roots). Anyone have any experience with, or thoughts on, this product?

Did you buy it? I'm been considering a RM solo for about year but I never see one on the road and no one on these forums has any input either.

I just ordered a Solo 50 ST. It's been shipped, but hasn't arrived here yet. I'll post first impressions when it gets here.

I own a RM Columbus Spirit tubed all steel frame that is like the 50ST w/o the carbon seat tube and stays. The frame is sold by CBO . Like all RM steel frames it appears to be made by Maxway in Taiwan-yes the "built in Canada" label is deceptive .It is a marvelous steel frame-stiff in the BB yet comfortable and responsive. It is similar in feel to a oversized Reynolds 853 frame that I own but nearly .4 lbs lighter. The frame is a bargain for $400 -I paid $320 after coupon code discount.Great weld quality and black powdercoat paint.I think the Spirit is the best steel deal on the web for the CBO price.
