Going to Peets would solve both my quality coffee and number of miles problems, as the nearest is in Morgan Hill, 115 miles away.

I've never had a problem with Starbucks coffee. Had a friend who worked there, got a pound of coffee a week. Since he didn't drink a pound a week, every other, I got me a pound. If you brew it right, it's great. If you brew truck stop coffee right, it's better than normal. If you shoot hot water through coffee grounds in three minutes, it's going to taste like poop.
He should be riding in the street though, sans coffee. OP, eloquent post!

Espresso -- double shot. I hate mixed drinks from SB but their espresso from some Ethiopian blend is not bad. What's this talk of bitter. HTFU I say. We have an Illy at home and if you know your espresso, you damn well should know Illy. IMO the Record of Espresso makers

Behold the Oracle's wisdom:
Personality type: Hippie
In addition to being a hippie, you are a hypochondriac health nut. You secretly think that your insistence on only consuming all-natural products is because you're so intelligent and well-informed; it's actually because you're a sucker. You've dabbled in Wicca or other pseudo-religions that attract morons and have changed your sexual orientation a few times this year. You probably live in California. Everyone who drinks iced venti sugar free vanilla soy latte with whipped cream should be forced to eat a McDonald's bacon cheeseburger.
Also drinks: Beverages with lots of marketing that says they're herbal and organic
Can also be found at: Whole Foods, indoor rock climbing facilities

... why do I drive past you every day on my way to work at about 7:30am, as you sip your coffee in one hand while steering with your other? Do you work? Don't you know you shouldn't ride your road bike on the sidewalk, the traffic only is going 35mph. You can ride on the road (sans coffee). Blue jersey and black shorts match your bike so eloquently. The shade of blue almost seems to blend in so perfectly with your bike. I can only imagine that your 2 mile ride down the sidewalk and through two parking lots takes you an hour, from the insurmountable speed I see every day. At least you can wear your jersey a week before washing it because you don't break a sweat.
P.S. Kudos on the helmet. The sunvisor must help keep the morning sun rising on the horizon from your eyes.

If you don't want to spring for the Morning Rush, which is a nice product, and already own a bottle cage, Trek sells these.
I've been very happy with mine, even if the top sometimes does get gunked up on rainy/snowy rides as it sits on the downtube, not the bars like the MR.

I think the best thing I've seen is a guy sparking up a Marlboro light at the traffic lights, then smoking it as he rides for the next couple of minutes. Kinda like having chocolate cake with a diet coke, they cancel each other out.
Still, if I could suck in a Beanscene espresso half way through my commute, I think I'd pull over and give it a 'shot'.

Unfortunately, in many parts of the USA they're pretty much the only coffee shop in town.

Wish we had a local coffee shop worth supporting, sad to say. Our $bucks is the best shop in town.

That's how it is here. I've rode my bike to Starbucks a few times, but never in a full kit. We are getting another privately owned coffee shop soon. My friend is opening it, and it's closer to home. Yay.

The bike shops aren't too good, either. One is OK, but too small to have any selection. The other two aren't worth a fart.

And yes, Peet's makes killer drinks/roasts. Lance was right about that AND Shimano. So there's two things he has going for him.

I see cyclists at my local FourBucks all the time. There is a FourBucks right across the street from the Hippodrome Theater in downtown Gainesville. The local Tuesday/Thursday hammerhead ride departs from the Hipp at 6:00. Many of the participants enjoy the outdoor seating at the FourBucks. I don't think that I have ever seen them drinking the coffee, though.
As for me I love good coffee, especially a double shot of expresso. That is why I have a very nice Saeco machine. I recently replaced my old one that finally died after 9 years of hard usage. My expresso is way better than any FourBucks expresso I have ever had to endure. I guess FourBucks is OK for airport coffee.
