Tommasini Techno vs Colnago 2008 Master X-Light
Hello everyone. I have to choose between these two model bike frames. Both would be ordered custom for my geometry and both frames are steel lugged. Which model would you pick? The Tommasini Techno or the Colnago 2008 Master X-Light. If you don't already know, the Colnago Master X-Light is new this year for being all steel now. Some interesting trivia; Tommasini is offering direct sale this month only with 20% off and no sales tax. For me that's 26.6% off of retail. Custom geometry is also free as well as custom paint. Colnago I'm not sure about but its 12-14 weeks for custom through them and I believe it will cost more even without the sale from Tommasini.
Techno = $1839 plus shipping. Fork is extra ($315 for Steel; $324 Carbon all 1") 6-8 Week lead time.
Colnago = $2400 plus shipping. Carbon fork included. Four month lead time.
Sept Price for Techno is $1581.04 w/steel fork. Add shipping.

Tommasini. Although both are good choices and I think would ride very similar.
I would pick the Tommasini, they are more rare and better looking in my eyes. This is not even considering the price.

Years ago I had the chance to ride a Tommasini and it was a beautiful bike. This was back in the mid 80's, and I would love to have one now if my wife would let me get one. You just do not see that many of them around so, I would go with the Tommasini

If you have to ask go Tommasini. You don't deserve a Master X-Light.

At the LBS the other week, a Tommasini came in on special order. I missed seeing a Techno that the customer picked up by only a couple of hours. However, according to the LBS owner who is a devout Colnago fan and owner (C50) he said that he would own the Techno over the Master X-Lite hands down due to the extra attention regarding the paint job quality (depth, feel and look) and detail. He said "there is no comparison between the two frames". Damn...I wish I could have seen that Techno!

That's a huge price difference you're talking about. You should look at some other options if you're going to lay down that much. Mondonico, cinelli, casati, carrera, pinarello, etc come to mind. For that price, you could get something custom.

Tommasini, if both fit you well, etc. Nicer finish and rarer - Colangos are as common as dirt around here. You are paying extra for the Colnago name.

I'm a little biased because I just bought a '07 Master XL. They have always been all steel, the steel bike with carbon rear where Master Carbon. I have 3500 km on the bike since June this year and love it. It rides and handles beautifully.

If memory serves right, I think even you said or gave a tip for finding a good deal on e-bay was to look for the lesser known name brands...it may almost be fact, but to me it seems like its easier to unload a well known bike than an obscure one...it does impact value, imho.

Both are great bikes but I personally would go with the Tommasini.
The lug work is beautiful, old time heritage and you just do not see many around.

I would get the Tommasini, hands down. Colnagos are a dime a dozen. They do seem to have great resale judging from eBay auctions, but why buy either bike if you intend to sell it?
