The Death of Marco Pantani
Have any of you read the book, "The Death of Marco Pantani" by Matt Rendell? I am about 1/2 way through it and have really enjoyed it thus far. It is well written. Just wondering if any of you have read it , and also giving those who are looking for a good read a heads up. Take care!

I am currently re-reading 'Blazing Saddles' by Matt Rendell. Very entertaining indeed. I may have to buy the Pantani book.

Rendell is an excellent author. Another book of his I relaly enjoyed was "A Significant Other" about Victor Hugo Pena, and Rendell got the added part when Victor was in the Yellow Jersey.
I have the Pantani book, but have only jsut started. Rendell's books are more a "report" than a "story" and as was previoulsy stated, in "matter of fact", but it's been an interesting read so far.

I liked the book, it is written in a detached manner because Pantani still has fanboys who believe he rode clean and did not die of a cocaine overdose. It tells a tragic story.
I did not know Pantani had his ears pinned back surgically.

I'm currently reading it. It's certainly an interesting look into the workings
of Pantani.
I find it ironic that he "gifted" Ulrich a stage win (les deux alps?) in 98, but was insulted
when Armstrong did the same to him (Ventoux).
I'm only up to his Tour win so can't comment further than that.

Was Pantani upset because Armstrong came out and told the media that he gifted the stage? (I could be wrong)

I finished the book last week. It was interesting. I guess I would have liked for him to spend more time on Pantani's early career. The book is really about the lead up to his death. He goes into excruciating detail about doping controls and Marco's Hematocrit levels throughout his career. It is worth reading, but not what I would consider a great read.
