Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which breaks are better?

I am deciding between upgrading to ultegra breaks or campy breaks. Which one of these is better and why?

I have both. The Ultegras are more responsive but I prefer the looks of the Centaurs. And they work just fine.

Breaks are never good on your bike unless they're to eat fig newtons.

As far as brakes go, all new double-pivots will stop you more than amply.

At the risk of being strung up by OCP police, I have these on my Surly and they work great.

If you use Shimano, use the Shimano brakes. Campy doesn't have the opening lever on the brakes.

I have campy chorus brakes with ultegra brake levers. It's not a big deal; I just remember the number of revolutions the orbital was set at when I loosen it to remove the wheel.

Yeah, but wait until you bust a spoke and need to open the brakes to get that last little bit so they don't rub.

They're there for a purpose.

Breaks are never good on a bicycle. I suggest you go look for a new frame.
