Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

OUCH! Nice seat. Is it even comfortable with no padding? To be honest it looks like it hurts.

The K:1 does have a gel cover which you can see in the photos, since the gel is clear or somehow covered to look like carbon it blends in very well. You can see the tip of the gel pad end about 2/3 the way down the nose of the saddle.

Interesting... It looks very "covert"

I tried the regular arione and it really really hurt within a few miles.
My behind likes the SLR a lot more, but man that saddle looks pretty cool!

The actual layer of carbon fibre tape used to protect the rails is extreme rough, so I cover them with duct tape. I found out with my previous carbon railed arione that the section of rail in front of the saddle wing flex area was wearing patches in the bib shorts.

There is a thin layer of gel padding on top of the saddle, I'm hoping this layer and the designed saddle flex is going to make the saddle comfortable.

I'd be interested to know how you find this saddle. I personally found it to be surprisely comfortable.

I'll tell you in a few days time, I'll be the guinea pig on a 4 hour ride. If I don't post anything for a while, you'll know that I won't be able to sit down.

Rob thats good news, what is your longest ride on the saddle so far ? Do you have it set up level or tilted ?

With the K1 no more then 40 miles, just the time of testing it prevented long rides. We were in the process of moving and the wife wasn't up for packing herself.

The gel (I think) mades all the difference in this all carbon saddle. Oh and a good pair of bibs.

That's such a pimp saddle.

I'm doing alright with my standard Arione after a few medium-length rides. Just keeping an eye on your experience with this one.

Wingflex thing? What is that about. Heard about it but don't actually know what it is supposed to be or do.

Yes, the wingflex area flexes with very little finger pressure, actually it flexes way more than my other ariones. Just like a slightly soft tire.

This is an old but good review on the Arione, which explains its features.

Yes, the wingflex area flexes with very little finger pressure, actually it flexes way more than my other ariones. If you look at the wingflex area you'll see the vertical carbon "fingers" which are separated by a soft thermoplastic type material. I guess it's softer in the first place as you can't "break in" carbon fibre.
