Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just went out and bought a pair of Bontrager x lite Carbon cages. $50.00 each in LBS but I've seen them as low as $39.99 online. I'm impatient and needed them now Anyway just installed them and they look great. they seem very sturdy and durable and at 26g each, they are pretty light. Better value than the new xxx lite at 17g costing $80+. 9g per cage doesn't justify the $30 increase per bottle, especially since they look exactly the same. I like that Bontrager made a full bottle cage while still keeping the weight down, mcuh better than some other companies that try to cut down on weight by cutting down/out on material. Seems to flimsy and easy to break (in my opinion). Not too mention its easy to make something light when there's nothing to it.

Pedros Milk Cages. 35g each, $12 each which includes a small bottle, and they're made of recycled material.

At an extra 14g, I'll take my Profile Strykes. For those of you who aren't metrically inclined, that's 0.05 pounds. Compare that to the weight of a full bottle. I just don't see the point. Then again, I'm on a 20 pound bike.

i respect everyone's decision, but i find it funny that you would say that 9g per cage isn't worth it while paying $40-50 for a bottle. why did you get what you got? you could have saved $30 (or more) for bottle cages that are 35-40g.

sorry...not making fun, just find it interesting the choices folks make.

I just got two of these:
https://www.rei.com/product/746416?vc...HP_CYCLING_TOC

For the $42+ difference between those and the carbon fibre ones, I'll just relieve myself before I get on the bike.

I meant bottle cage, not bottle. At no time did I pay $40-50 for a bottle. 2nd, I liked the style and look of the bontrager bottle cage. I was saying if one were to buy a bontrager bottle cage, that the x lite seems to be a better deal (for someone willing to spend $50+ on a bottle cage) than the xxx lite b/c they are only 9g lighter and alot more money.I didn't buy it for they weight difference anyway, like I said, it was mostly for style with the added benefit of a light weight bottle cage. If you like the look of your bike, you'll want to ride it more, which is why we are all here to begin with.....because we like to ride.

Are you saying that if everyone else could tell you spent $30 more, it would be worth it?

I'm not passing judgment on conspicuous consumption, just asking if that's what you meant.

I have the Token MonoQ carbon cages on my Look, they work well and hold the bottles with no dropping yet. A good price and look good on a carbon bike.

Yarr! Since none of these scurvy dogs dared answer your question, I will. TOKEN is a Taiwan brand. They make parts for other lubbers and now are branding their own stuff. It's probably pretty good but never used'm meself.

when i typed 'bottle' above, i meant 'bottle cage'. my comments are exactly the same, though. $40 or $50 or $80 is high for a bottle or a bottle cage.

your original point was that it was silly to spend $30 more to save 9g...and yet you spent >=$30 more than "lesser" cages that would only weigh 10g more than what you bought.

the logic just seemed arbitrary, that's all. (again, i'm not questioning your decision...i'm just entertained by human rationale.)

The people that justify buying >$20 cages based on weight savings are doing some serious rationalization for their spending. Let's be honest, I spent $35ea on CF bottle cages because I have a CF bike, I thought they looked hot and heck I can afford it. I could care less about a few grams in lower weight nor would it make me .000001% faster.

I have Ravx Alpha cages

I'm new to the forum so I'm not going to bicker. Maybe some of you misunderstood me in what I was trying to say. Read above, thats pretty much the point I was trying to get across, while still trying to give some personal advice to the original poster.......thats all

Well, you went into a lot of discussion about weight and cost/benefit and what not, when what you meant to say was "It looks cool."

That, we can understand.
