Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Enjoy some 25% grade photos

This a gallery by Dan Hicok of the SavageMan Triathlon. The bike route contained a 25% grade on one portion. Here is a gallery of attempts on that section... enjoy.

I'd have stood on the side and laughed out, "Where's your aero advantage now, slowpoke?"

"D'oh!"

thought this would be well received over here. I did not do this particular tri. The one I did was back in April of 2005. I do still want to do an Ironman at some point. Just to say I have done one. But I discovered bike racing, and so far my race to triathlon ratio = 2 to 1 (no reducing was needed). So racing bikes is better.

Just goes to show you that some Tri-geeks aren't that smart. Since your all runners just unclipp and run up the grass cross style. If your falling over on the hill you cant be going more than 2-3mph which you could have ran faster.

I love how he's still gripping the bars so he doesn't lose control and crash or something.

My favorite, even though he doesn't actually fall, is the guy on the Softride. That guy in the red sleeveless coming up on him starts the climb way back and probably had to do some nifty maneuvering once he got completely blocked by his perpendicularly parked opponent.

I don't know about this race and I may be out of line but...

Why don't people gear correctly for an event...

I believe it would be more studly to make to the finish than flopping on the ground like a fish...

The thing was, you got a T-shirt or something for completing that hellacious section. People had the option to go around that section as well. So yea, the people who fell over just weren't geared right. They went for macho and failed...

...because try-athletes usually don't "know about their gear". They go to the shop and the guy makes their stuff fast. These athletes just want to go fast....and they usually do.

They may not sell pie plates at their shops.
