Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Unfortunatly it runs both ways and makes drivers think all cyclists are stupid. Driving down Rt 19 South of Pittsburgh, PA and a guy on a road bike flys between 2 lanes of traffic waiting for a light. He almost got clipped. Not a kid either. Now almost everyone in that line of traffic thinks cyclists are stupid and deserve to die.

and she said that her driver's ed teacher told them that everytime you see a cyclist on the road you have to honk at them to let them know you're coming!

That just had me puzzled... if he was in the middle of the road maybe... but no, it was clear to her that it was with every encounter of a cyclist.

when I mentionned to her about cyclist having just as much rights as vehicules to use the road, she said he didnt mention anything about safety and sharing the road with cyclist, but just to honk at them.
Two things:

1. I do not find it surprising that the instructor did not tell your daughter how to share the road cyclists, these teachers are usually football coaches who could care less about doing that teaching stuff

2. What surprises me is that during her driver's ed. that you never mentioned that yourself.

Say it ain't so.

It aint so

however this was my first time taking her out, her dad did all the driving with her.
this was the first time I saw her reacting to cyclists on the road and heard of her teacher telling her to honk at every encounters and he is not a football coach, he's a police officer in Newmarket,NH.

I constantly find myself repeating this same phrase to myself;

Meaning that an intellectual genocide is in order.

What's with all you self-righteous people out there who think you're so much more intelligent and worthy to live because of where you dwell, what kind of music you do or don’t listen to, and what kind of sports you do or don’t watch?
Do you hear yourselves?
You guys joke about killing off people based solely on how you deem yourselves.

tell you the thruth I wondered about my daughter's comprehension so I asked her gf and she got the same message from this class.
It's part of the motor vehicle code for many states, including here in Ohio, to give a toot before passing a slow moving vehicle.

If you refer to me as 'pal' again I will have no choice but to add you to my 'Hound off BF list' along with DocRay. Euro was on that list at one time, you don't see him around here any more. Calling me 'old' just deepens my resolve. The stupid smiley face irks me further still.

I was taught that when passing a cyclist that you were supposed to lightly beep to notify the cyclist that you were going to pass. Actually I seem to recall that passing anyone required a beep.

I always get a kick out of people who wait until they get right next to me to beep. It doesn't work! Sometimes I frown at them, other times I laugh at them.

So how does religion get blamed for some idiots in a pickup truck. I don't recall anywhere in the Bible where God or Jesus said "mow down the bicycle riders for they have sinned by wearing those funny shorts" So we are to assume you will never have kids cause you are so much smarter than the rest of us. I'll pray for you to help change your attitude.
