Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What a Jerk

Two of my cycling buddies had an “incident” this evening after the group ride.

“Quite an evening, on the ride home, the Prague dude and I had little altercation with a tweaker in a red truck. The guy was an idiot. I actually had to ask him, “Do you have such little regard for another human’s life that you would run them over for riding a bicycle on the street?”

His reply was a “Yep, if they’re that arrogant to ride in the road they deserve to die.””

Wonderful.

Eugenics.

Edit: Actually that's phase II.

Phase I:

Since man has no natural predators, the gene pool has become diluted. Using selective breading, gene splicing and some DNA manipulation, we produce an animal that feeds on humans. This animal isn't overly clever, fast or equipped with any terrifying teeth or anything. It is just fast enough, just smart enough to catch only those who aren't smart enough to avoid them and who have been failed by natural selection.

Once these people have all be eaten, our beast will become extinct because of a lack of food, leaving the rest of use to carry on.

Seriously.

I'm shocked, shocked I tell you- there are jerks in the world. Who'd have thunk it? While I'm not surprised by this incident, I am saddened by it. I don't like to think how many times a day drivers have the same thoughts about us and contemplate just running us over.

Yet another result of the ongoing jackassification of America. I blame it on "new country" music and Nascar. It's creating a race of angry, ******** rednecks.

What a philosophy. Arrogance=Ride in Road=Death. Someone call Switzerland and tell them to hold the Nobels - we have a winner.

I've heard it all now...first things were blamed on rap music, now we're all the way to blaming country music for making people "angry".

Nascar doesnt breed ***********, it merely attracts it in greater numbers than most other sports. Seriously, if you're ever worried about a nascar fan chasing you, Just make a right turn.

I didn't almost get run over, but got behind some redneck teenagers in a pickup yesterday, a Dodge (I think) boss 5.4 v8... Going along at 25 nice and easy until the guy in the passenger seat notices I am drafting. Turns to his buddy driving. And to "show off" he goosed it hard and accelerated off. I just laughed to myself.

Did he think I was gonna try to accelerate with him? Or that he needed to prove he was faster? *Shrug*

I blame it on religion that says to populate the planet so we can destroy it and then all that pray will be saved. So now you have complete idiots with no education except what the church tells them are breeding like crazy. I will bet your red truck driver comes from 16 year old parents who should not be allowed to drive let alone breed. I have been around the world and only stupid people are breeding!

on the subjet... but a little off subjet..
last night I was taking my kid driving, she just passed her driver's education.
She saw a cyclist on the road and said " OK, Now I have to honk my horn at him" I asked her why? he is clearly not in your way, why honk?
and she said that her driver's ed teacher told them that everytime you see a cyclist on the road you have to honk at them to let them know you're coming!

That just had me puzzled... if he was in the middle of the road maybe... but no, it was clear to her that it was with every encounter of a cyclist.

when I mentionned to her about cyclist having just as much rights as vehicules to use the road, she said he didnt mention anything about safety and sharing the road with cyclist, but just to honk at them.

Usually people who have that kind of attitude towards cyclists are fat, ugly, who smoke and have never had the experience riding a bike. I'm almost positive they have never worked out before too.

That is weird but sometimes I do appreciate a honk. Not an angry get off the road honk but a gentle, "hey just wanna let you know I am here" honk. I'd hope she isn't being taught that she should honk so that the cyclist knows to get off the road.

I firmly believe that many problems in the future could be prevented with the proper education. Drivers Ed is a joke in this country. People really honestly believe that bikes don't belong on the road rather the side walk for example. They just were never taught that before.

it was just very clear that the message that came across was "honk at cyclists" but nothing about sharing the road and cyclists rights.
tell you the thruth I wondered about my daughter's comprehension so I asked her gf and she got the same message from this class.

Should have told him it would likely have resulted in him spending some time in the pokey. And you would enjoy the thought of his arse looking like the Grand Canyon afterwards if you know what I mean. Yeah, you do.

Since man has no natural predators, the gene pool has become diluted.
This is not entirely true. Man is his own enemy. Lawyers have thru liablity lawsuits all but eliminated the possibility for stupid people to elimate themselves from the gene pool. I'm not saying that lawyers shouldnt have done it, but the byproduct of such suits is that stupid people live longer and procreate.

So if we want to shore up the gene pool, lets get rid of some lawyers.
