Some Mavic pics from interbike.

Just thought we would share some pics from interbike for our roadie friends out there:

Those spokes are carbon tubes that work in tension and compression. Evidently there is almost no tension on the actual wheel (like a normal spoked wheel) as the carbon tube itself is the main structural member supporting rider weight.

the are the new cosmic ultimates. Spokes are carbon threads integrated to both the hub and rim. the MP3 programs sounds like a must. The pricetag is...well, it is what it is. http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...s/DSC05985.jpg

They are incredibly light though.

Hope you enjoy!

From the last few pictures I just start to picture fractured CF.

I'm sure the engineering analysis has proven out. Actual road conditions may add some variables not accounted for or rationalized as a low risk. Think broomstick:( Hill climbing, quick sprints and tt's may be highly enjoyable on these babies. Looks like a set of wheels for occassional use. Anyone know what they cost?

I still have not bought in to complete carbon bike mantra although I have many components made of carbon like my new cross shown here. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c8...1/DSCN3332.jpg

I saw the result of a 10 mph crash a few weeks ago which resulted in snapped carbon bars. The woman who crashed had some minor road rash but otherwise uninjured. She was in the middle of a steep downhill with no way to operate the bike after the crash.

For some reason carbon acts like a magnet (I may not be able to stop myself:D Help me!)

At Interbike, were you able to go to the Cervelo seminars?

This pic has a MSRP of 2999 tag on it. Not sure if this is the one you referenced. Still pretty steep.

That's absurd, you could get two sets of Zipps off ebay for that price

Mavic aspires to be Colnago.:)

incorrect.

I checked the Mavic website. Last years Cosmic Ultimates go for about $2.7K/pair msrp. The design has changed so the $3K price must be correct for this years version. Way out of my price range!

sorry, BMW is more of a mountainbike company. But individually I ride road and thought you guys would like a few pics.
I'm sure all the cervelo news will be out in another month or so when the magazines run.

Is it just me or do those radial carbon spokes look like an old wagon wheel?

CrimsonKarter21 09-29-07 07:52 PM

Color me ignorant, but those R-Sys's are a dumb idea.
They use fat carbon spokes that look like the equivalent of a sideways Hoshi aero spoke, then instead of using a lighter carbon rim, they use an aluminum rim, but designate it as a climbing rim.
