Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Tires

any recommendations for what tires to choose in cold very wet conditions, having issues with straight line braking at the moment with front wheel locking up very easily.
This is used daily in traffic so dont mind how much it costs!! gonna be cheaper than a visit to GP/Hospital.

Presume I should be dropping the pressure a little as well?

assuming you mean road tires: Michelin Krylion Carbons.

correct on pressure.

btw - sounds like your problem has more to do with your brakes or your skills than the actual tires.

Incorrect. Michelin pro 2 grip. And the wider the tire, the better. Also learn how to use both brakes at max effectiveness in wet conditions.

get some commuter tires with treads.

1 they don't slip as much
2 they rob some energy, so when you motor with them it is good training

False. If you're riding mainly on pavement, treads are utterly useless and provide less grip than a completely slick tire.

2. is definitley true but once again, at the expense of grip.

What was said about slick tires is true, they do provide more grip. I believe there is an article on Sheldon's site. Also, google, "threshold braking" and try it in a gravel parking lot.

My braking skills are not in question, never actually lost it in the wet (had moments certainly), lost it on ice alright but wasnt braking at the time!.
Currently my issue is that I feel the rubber running down the centre of my tires is more long distance than the shoulders (tire is dual compound hard in middle for longevity and soft on sholders) so now looking for a tire that is stickier than these in the centre and shoulders, possibly the pro 2 race grip?
