Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Campagnolo RECORD ULTRA Narrow C-10 Chain questions

My chain has around 3000 miles and I am looking to replace it.

I have a Campagnolo Daytona 10 speed setup with a 10 speed Record chain. Every ad I read says the same thing:

For best performance a Campagnolo Chain Tool should be used for installation.

My chain tool is not a Campy brand. Not sure why they would say that unless the pin diameter is smaller than other brands? Is there a need for it with the new Campagnolo RECORD ULTRA Narrow C-10 Chain?

Also, some say the chains weigh 255 grams, so say 320. Are there different Campagnolo RECORD ULTRA Narrow C-10 Chains?

Sorry for all the questions, I am just starting to work on the bike myself and want to do it correctly. Any help or advice will be appreciated.

you don't really need the campy tool, your regular chain tool will work fine, just go slow and keep the link firmly pressed in the tool with your thumb.
not sure about the weight....

any chain whip will work.

Weights vary depending on who is selling. Don't worry about it, there is only one Record UT chain.

Also, you can use a Park chain tool to drive in the master link pin.

There are three versions of the chain named by gruppo - Veloce, Chorus, and Record. One, at least, has hollow pins.

I use the Lickton Superlink IV, made for the UN chains, with no issues.

I wish the Connex links would fit the new Narrow chains.

Will the Shimano 10S Connex link be narrow enough?

I think it is still a little wide, but I heard rumor it will work just fine.

The Superlink IV is made specifically for the UN chains. It took them a while to make it, and perhaps the others will follow. But in the meantime, this one works.

I use a KMC missing link with my record 10 chain and have had no problems. I find it much easier and more convenient than using the pin to install the chain. YMMV
