Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

24" Road Tires

I'm about to buy my kid his first road bike, a classic lugged Schwin Sprint, but I haven't found very good choices for road tires in 24". Any suggestions?

Edit: I think this is also sized as a 650a.

Bump. Still no luck, except some Vittorias that only inflate to 55 psi.

24" bicycle tires is such a minefield of different sizes that you need to be VERY specific as to size, not just guessing. There are 4 reasonably common sizes that all get called 24". They are ISO 507 (mtn), ISO 520 (currently common for 24" roadies), ISO 540 (used to be common for roadies but still around) and ISO 547 (rare). Then it may not be 24" at all and it may be ISO 571 (650c). If it realy is 650a then good luck there.

Here's another sheldon brown article which will describe the breadth of the issue, https://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html

Regards, Anthony

650c is close to 650 mm, not 650 cm! See sheldon's article on the subject.
