Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Sunday Ride (October 7, 2007)

Today, there is no riding joy. I have an all-day church event that will prevent me from riding. But, I do know that on BF I can live vicariously through your riding efforts. Tell us about your Sunday ride.

This thread is too early for west coast folks. The sun is not even out yet.

But cycling is a religious experience. Why attend church at all? I can assure everyone here that I see God at the top of Scratchup Road every Sunday @ about 10:15AM.

Doing a short local TT at 0830. Hopefully going fast enough that I am done in time to leave by 0930 to be at my next cross race at 1100.

No ride for me on Sunday either. My gardens were a mess, so I spent all morning and half the afternoon beautifying them. I'll be out at 02:00 Monday for a quick 70k ride before work.

Really only kidding Waldo. Very cool to hear your involved with your church. That's positive. But cycling does generate more endorphins, unless you're in a Baptist church choir quivering on the floor in a state of religious/gospel ecstacy.

In church, the only time I get religious is when the hot girls start walking back from center aisle during communion. Praise the lord!

I'm recovering from T-boning a car at 22 mph

On the upside, he failed to file a police report, so I'm going to make a statement and get his testes to keep in a jar to show every motorist that treats cyclists like ****e.

I love sunday mornings. I was out as soon as it was light, very little traffic, quite adn still not too hot. Almost 90 degrees in Indiana in October is whacky. Maybe AlGore is right. Anyway I knocked out about 12-15 miles before Church this morning. A wonderful ride. I was chased by a dog this morning, but even that was fun. It lookd like a collie/Lab mix. Get this I seen it coming and sped up so it could not cut me off. Then it swang out behind my back tire and I was doing 20mph per computer. THis dang dog sounded like it was gaining on me. Oh yea, we were not on a hill but a long slope. How fast can normal dogs run, this little guy was fast. Maybe we can do it again next Sunday.

79-mile club ride today which was done mostly at base-miles pace over gently rolling hills. Forgot to charge my Garmin Edge GPS last night, so none of the ride was captured and I ended up wearing my HR strap for nothing. The last 20-odd miles were over some stiffer hills and some of the stronger guys went to the front to make our lives miserable - ended up getting slightly dropped off the back on the last big hill with another guy, but we managed to latch back on with 5-miles to go.

Coffee and carrot cake to finish off the ride at our usual cafe. Although I felt a lot of pain in those last miles, I'm feeling fine and refreshed an hour after getting back home.

Just done a fantastic 65 miler on my R3. First time I've done that kind of distance and the R3 was superb. Feeling really good about it as my riding buddies were really suffering, normally it's the other way round! Weather was great too, which is also a rarity in the UK.

One thing came out of it, my saddle needs changing. It broke in the middle on one side and my ass is giving me some aggro. Just ordered a 130 Toupe and I'll see how that goes.

Now I've got to mow the garden, and if you saw my garden you'd sooner do another 65 miles!

I'm riding from austin to san antonio, tx today. It's about a hundred miles. It's the same ride I crashed attempting last time and met someone almost a year ago, I guess. Anyway, wish me luck. I've got a bad feeling about this ride for some reason though.

Did 30 miles earlier this morning seeing how quickly I could pace myself, combined with getting up at 4:30AM after too little sleep I feel that I might have overdone it a little :-/

Still, lots of fun, and further encouraged me to get a proper road bike (riding a hybrid with slicks now - commuting bike)

I did a solo 50 mile ride with intermittent rain. I came home soaking wet, covered in road grit, smelling horrible, and now have to clean my bike. My shoes are waterlogged. It was a great ride.

We had amazing 65 degree weather at 7AM this morning in OH. Did a quick 27 mile loop with my Sunday group at a nice 17.3mph pace. I rode a century on Friday and I guess one day is not enough to heal my butt. It was the most painful 27 miles I've ridden yet....but I wouldn't miss it for the world

A trip to Mt. Soledad. I tried to get to the land slide area but it was blocked off by police. 25 miles total.

Solo 26 miles today 19.17 mph avg. I seem to be consistently exceeding the 19 mph average speed barrier now...

Tomorrow will be my "big ride" for the weekend.
