Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In daylight, BBB Winner with grey lenses - comfortable and not too expensive:

I got sick of having the "wrong" lenses in when conditions change (on early morning or evening rides), so I got a pair of Shimano Galaxy, which have photochromic lenses. These are not great in strong sunlight (the lens doesn't darken much) but do the job well under other conditions:

They usually cost less than $10.00. They are very strong and durable. If they break or get lost, hey it was only $10.00. You can get them in a few shades. I tend to wear the Ice Blue AOS glasses you find in Lowes or Home Depot. But I have some great clear and yellow lens glasses that I like to wear in the woods or on roads that have alot of shadows or wet leaves. Take a look at them. It's a good deal and I go through about one pair a month.
I'm with Cardiaccat! (But I'm widely known as a cheap b@stard, too.) I use whatever kind of cheap safety glasses I can buy at the home improvement center. They're cheap and durable, the sunglasses provide great UV protection they're optically correct, come in all sorts of shapes and colors, I don't care if my Take-A-Look mirror scratches the temple, and if they get lost or broken I won't be traumatized as I would if they were Oakleys.

Oakley half Jacket Transitions. The transitions lenses work really well for me. The riding here can vary from sun to fog, bright sun to redwood groves. The transitions lenses work really well in those conditions. I don't like a super dark tint on my glasses even in bright sun. The only knock i have heard on these for some people is that they don't get dark enough.

I wear Oakley Flak Jacket XLJ's. I have the bike array with VR28 Black Iridium (I ride these from sunny to about 50% cloud cover), Persimmon (Overcast and evening), and clear (night riding). I wear these on both mountain and road and have not had any problems with them falling/splipping, I also use them frequently as shooting glasses. They're great all around and I wouldn't give them up for a pair of cheapies. I don't worry about the lens too much because I know a rep that can get them to me pretty cheap if they get scratched too bad. The coatings on oakleys are usually pretty durable, much more durable than the cheapies that are out there, plus I like fit of oakley's over most glasses that I've tried.

I prefer clear for night, but if I have to ride in both day and night on the same ride, I find yellow gets me by.

$3.99-8.99, Cool, just like Oakleys
AMBER for Most Days
Clear for nite
Mirrored Sunglasses for Photos

I buy 2 of each, trash em when they are done. I usually can use them for 6 months or so.

That's my problem, about -9.00 in both eyes. I have a really old pair of Bolles, with the inserts, but they were so heavy and I got fogging between the lenses.

Is there such a thing as goggles for cycling which are much smaller than these?

look up "WileyX glasses" they have goggles which can be converted into glasses but semi seal around your eyes and re real low profile, and a small step up from there are the ES goggles the military isues, not exactly really small and lightweight but they might fit the bill, check em out
