An angry road cycilst is a dead road cyclist.

Go with the flow weenies. Ignore the idiot drivers, the cat calls, etc. It is not worthy of a response. You will live longer and be on the path to Pcad Cycling Zen.

How did I attain this lofty perch of cycling wisdom? I'll never forget it. I was a young whippersnapper bicycle racer in training (for me that was my early 30's in the early 90's). Up on Calls Hollow Road in the Middle of Nowhere NY, a bunch of arsewipe teens in a car swerve near, me throw an empty can at my head and curse me out. I was livid. I flip them the bird. Their brake lights come on and they start to back up. I now realize I have picked a fight with God Knows Who in the Middle of Nowhere. Very dumb. They thought better of it and took off. At that point, the Wizened Vet Racer pal of mine looks at me and asks 'Is it really worth it? Do you really want to fight with those idiots? Dude, let it go, NEVER react to that crap. They are so not worth it.'

And he was right. And I don't give that bullsiht a second thought anymore. Really. Rolls right off the Pcad back - along with whatever litter they hurl at me. You want to survive 100K+ road miles like Uncle Pcad? Relax. Listen to Pcad. Get some Cycling Zen you weenies.

Funny I've noticed I let a lot of it roll off of me, but doesn't change the fact that I feel the need to contact someone else's flesh with my fist every few years....

Getting older and becoming a father has not tempered this as much as I had hoped.

But according to you, p-cad, I am still a young wipersnapper. I can only dream of someday being as old as you and still being able to walk and feed myself.

You talk about your bowel movements a lot don't you. I hear old people do that.

I don't tend to react strongly to words uttered by imbeciles, unless it is to laugh at them. That is assuming, of course, that I haven't been drinking too much. In that case, all bets are off. The proof of this can be found in my file at the probation office.

I don't normally drink and cycle, though.

Actually, it's shut up and ride. I rode today. Did you? Huh? Huh? Oh wait, I forgot, the other people here (some of them) have lives. Never mind.

Hear, hear!!! I get so tired of the "I'll show them" or "Let them try it" posts in reference to confrontations with drivers. So silly. Those kind of actions in real life actually create a more dangerous cycling environment for ALL OF US!

While flipping the bird or other such retaliatory gestures may bring brief joy, Pcad is on the money with this sage advice. It is not worth it. You don't know who else may be in the car with them or what they're packing or what they're on. It took me exactly one incident to figure this out. Luckily I was not in the middle of nowhere and I was able to ride up to a store entrance where there were several potential witnesses. Fortunately nothing happened but it was pretty frightening.

Listen to The Pcad. He is right on this one.

Ever consider recreational combat sports to fulfill that "need?"

You missed a crucial part of Pcad's post. He reacted that way when he was young and ignorant. Now he is just old with bowel problems. He has a Zen attitude but I hear that sometimes happens when our elders get old and slow.

If Mr. Third Person's tone of posting is anything like his genuine demeanor I doubt he's az zen az he would like us to believe.

    At least that's Treespeed's impression.
