Read a book about Lance - Wierd cycling tradition/myths?
I was reading a book about Lance and it is mentioned that pro racers avoid water because it can supposedly soften muscles. One racer even went so far as to not take showers and the whole peloton knew it. Is this an old wives tale? Also, why are wives/gf prohibited from staying in the same room as racers during TDF?

not showering could be dangerous when you are that sweaty though.

Can we please go back to the Campy vs. Shimano threads? I haven't seen one of those in a while.

To the OP. The reference of water you are referring to in the book was a passing mention. Some Euro pro coaches don't like for their racers to shower "before" a time trial, they feel that the water will be absorbed by the legs and make them just that fraction slower, because their legs will feel a bit heavier. Crazy I think, and yes it sounded to me when I read it like an old wives tale, but winning is everything to them.
Wait a sec...is this yet another Ryanf clone...I just read some of his other threads....of all the people to emulate.
