Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The Cannondale Sale Rumor...

There was recently a thread that was based on information posted on the Competitive Cyclist website regarding their passing along a "rumor" about a sale of Cannondale to Pacific. Further, the moving of their manufacturing to Asia.

This is total, complete bull****. Can't say it any better than that. A dump truck load of it.

It was a rumor started by a competitor. Very sad that this company had to resort to this (they know who they are, I will not say out here) as Cannondale's been kicking their @$$es in the marketplace.

Keep making those outstanding products.

Because there could be legal issues. But you would be incorrect.

I dont think it was trek cuz somebody in this thread says that it was two companies whose names start with an "s". https://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?p=3618554

So i would guess Scattante or Specialized. But theres also Santa Cruz, Seven, and Scott??

I hear it's 100% accurate from a highly reliable top secret industry source, who's identity I cannot reveal.

Discuss.

Trek doesn't need to start stuff. All they needed was a superstar to dominate on their machines for years so that people would know who they were, and buy their bikes. I mean Pre-Lance. Did anyone know what Trek was or much less buy a Trek? I say this, and I own a Trek, and love it, They have done well since they got rich.

I'm surprised the Italians havn't been mentioned as the culprits behind the rumors.

It's all part of the family business.

Did somebody stuff a Cannondale in a trunk? Was there a muddy shovel involved?

https://www.bikemag.com/news/cannondale_sold/ Formally publish by an industry specific magazine.

Edit: I dont know if this was the sale you are talking about, this is an old article from 2003. Its possible the sale was only recently completed though.

Because I had a conversation with a senior person at the company. With all due respect, not everyone gets their info using cyclingnews as their sole source. There are a few of us that hang out here from time to time that are really in the business.

And it's absolutely not Trek.

But that's all I am saying.

Just know that Cannondale is not being sold to Pacific. Manufacturing will remain in Bedford.

Enjoy.

That was post-bankruptcy, after the motorcycle thing. Obviously, since they have come out with one or more pro road frames each year for the last several years, R&D has not suffered in the least. New Scalpel coming out. Most innovative company out there right now.

The rumour, if you are following along surfaced in the Competitive Cyclist website and the allegation was that it was being discussed at Interbike. The story was that Cannondale was being sold to Pacific Cycle (makes Schwinn, GT, Mongoose among others) and that all the mfg would move to Asia.

This is not true.

When I purchased my first high end Trek racing bike in 1989 they were already the largest bicycle company in the USA making innovative high tech bicycles. At the time Lance was 16 years old.

Its really cool how we can take a dead topic and repackage it so that we can end up with even more posts about nothing. Simoni should have just let the thought of starting this thread die on the vine. JMHO.

I've been hearing this rumor regurgitated as fact or foregone conclusion around here lately in multiple threads. It'd be nice to have it killed.
