If/Then?
IF we tuck low to be more aero INTO the wind,
then
Should we ride more upright when it is a tailwind to take full advantage?

You worry about the small things too much.
Just enjoy your ride.
*edit*
In your now :closed: thread, you write that you wore Capris. I have it on good authority that you actually wear Shants.

Yes - and you should pedal backwards. The backward movement of your lower legs will assist in catching the wind, which, of course, will push you along that much faster. Duh.

Thought of this during my ride today.
Winds about 15....headwind all the way out...tailwind back (I know...at least that is the GOOD way to be blowing for a ride)

When I raced TTs in Manitoba where it is VERY windy, my coach's advice was this ...
"When you get around to the other side of the course, where the wind is at your back, sit up and stretch"
The rest of the time he wanted us riding as low as possible. But if we felt we had to stretch, we were to do it when the wind was behind us.
-----
However, I have also "sailed" on my bicycle. That's where you sit up and hold your jacket out on the sides to create a sail, and then let the wind push you. One of the days I did that, I was up to 25-30 km/h just sailing ... no pedalling. When I pedalled, I was over 50 km/h. Flat ground, very windy.
But going home was a bit of an adventure.

Machka added to her post to address the comment that the wind had to be quite strong for sitting up to be of much benefit.

Today I got a nice tailwind (after a brutal struggle into the headwind) sat up and cruised at about 27-29 mph on flat land. I was going too fast to make my turn and the wind kept pushing me so I ended up taking it way wide. Luckily there were no cars behind me. Going into the crosswind was weird, it kept pushing me into traffic and I had to lean to the side a lot. Maybe I should get one of these:

Only would make a difference if the wind is faster than your pace.
I had the same headwind at the beginning and tailwind on the way back yesterday as everyone else sounds like they had. It was terrible heading out, but coming back was ~27mph the whole way without having to push all that hard
