Recommandation for a HR monitor

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Recommandation for a HR monitor

I had recovered from open-heart surgery last year & want to do biking to build up some strength. Have read about people using HR monitor for cycling & jogging. Would appreciate any info on a good HR monitor that you would use. Also how do you use one for proper exercising? Thanks.

Bypass here and the heart monitor gave me confidence in getting back to riding. I did use one before and Nothing changed once I got fit again.

Two ways of looking at the quality- Get a basic one that has limit alarms and shows your heart rate or get one that sings while its dancing. With my affinity with nothing electronic- I use just the basic functions on my Good one- Polar CS300.

what features are you looking for? the Polar FS1 is a great entry level HR monitor, but it doesn't have a back light, so if you plan on doing things with less than stellar lighting (like say a spin class) the FS2 may be a better choice. the Polar S150 for $79.99 at Performance is a sick deal, considering it retails for $139.99, look into it...
