What is wrong with Shimano and Campagnolo? I think Modolo made some kind of STI-like device several years ago, but it didn't function all that well and was kind of ugly.

just wondering if there's anything a little cheaper. they don't make tiagra 9 speeds, right?

The new Sora is also 9 speed (it also has the little gear indicter window introduced with Tiagra). I think they may have updated Tiagra to 10 speed for 2008.

i have a triple crankset...does that change anything? if you can't tell, i really have no idea about this stuff

get used 105 9-speed (ebay maybe). They'll be cheap.

If you want cheap, why not just buy bar end shifters? They are a lot cheaper than Shimano STI.
Note that Campagnolo ergo levers are not that expensive. I've seen 10 speed Mirage for $120.
