Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pimp my Poprad *pics*

2007 Poprad with Disc

Thomson X4 stem. 100 mm and 0 rise. Chris King headset. Pro PLT Compact Classic Bend 44cm bar.

Thomson detail.

Cane Creek Cross levers.

Fizik Microtex Tape.

New Selle San Marco Regal in white. Ti rails. I have never known comfort until this saddle.

Got a new helmet as well. Specialized Propero. Not bad for $100.

Cool rear vents.

My first thought when I saw the color and rear vents was, did you steal that off an imperial storm trooper?

I do like the bike, although I'd never do white on a cross.

I think the watch is ugly. Don't shave your arms/hands.

It is a magic balancing bike made possible by the use of a critical mass of headset spacers.

I spent the weekend piecing together the components for the upgrades. I wanted a more compact drop/reach bar since the stock bar is ridiculously long reach. The Thomson and CK headset was pure luxury. I'm stoked on the results.

I'm exploring custom wheel option next... it's a bit tricky to get a good off the self because of the disc brakes.

What's with that fork?
Bontrager Switchblade carbon fork. Intended for disc only.

Here's the mostly stock bike. It was like this earlier this week.

Updated: New bar (went to OS size), headset, SSM Regal saddle, a seatpost with tons of setback because the saddle has funky rails. New tape and I trimmed the cables.

Dude, those barsa are TITS! PRO makes them, as in Shimano's PRO? Are they machined?

Clearly your only option here is a Chris King hubset.

The bars are PRO-PLT.

I'm in love with the bend for the cross bike. Perfect for me - small drop, round profile and short reach.

Love it! I test rode the disc version on my way home Friday afternoon. I could not believe how smooth the ride was compared to my Major Jake. You have a very nice bike there.

Are those fenders going on it? If so, what do you do about the lack of chainstay bridge?

Yes, I had the fenders on but we had a dry streak in Portland so I removed them. Sadly, the rain has returned today.

Lack of chainstay bridge? Two zipties, one on the seat tube connected to another one on the fender.

if you shave your arms/hands, I'd suggest trimming those hairs on the back of your fingers too

I did something similar with my poprad except I use a ziptie across the stays and then on to the fender.
