Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Titanium frame -- black or silver spokes?

What color spokes look better on a titanium frame (unpainted), black or silver? I know this is highly subjective, but I'm curious to hear your opinions.

OK, here's the reason I'm asking. My LBS is giving me a good price on a pair of Ksyrium ES wheels. They're the last ones in stock, and they're black. My frame is a titanium Panasonic FCT09. Somehow, I'm thinking I'll be breaking some unwritten style code if I don't rock a full silver theme.

OK, let me have it!

Silver is really the only acceptable color for spokes unless you have Lightweights. Sorry.

PINK!

What color are the hubs? Black would look cool.

But who cares as long as they are built right and you can ride. Riding a bike>Looking at bikes.

i would say its highly dependent on your components such as your stem, bar and post.
that being said, my vote is for black.

Definitely Black

I've done all different colour combinations but the most striking is still a ti frame with black components and wheels.... spokes included.

Agreed. Look at my post in the "post your titaniums" thread. It's a bare frame with black hubs, spokes, rims, bar, cranks, saddle, and seatpost. I wish I had black brakes.

I've got both black spoke/hub wheels, and silver spoke/hub on my naked Ti, I prefer the black, but either look good.

Ti is kind of a dark black. like black + silver = Ti. I think that's why he's asking the question.

No offense, but that's the only white bar tape I've ever seen that I don't like. If it had black, it would look sweet. Of course, it looks freaking sweet as it is too.

I put on whatever tape I have available, I bought 20 pairs of white "Off-The-Front" bartape for $10.. all my bikes have that same bartape. Besides, the handlebar is carbon fiber.. only the lower portion of the handlebar require taping..

Red for me but I'd probably choose black over silver.

I have red spokes on a silver ti bike (with silver cranks and black bar tape). Wasn't my first choice, but you would be amazed at the compliments I get. If you're getting a deal on the black spokes, and they are the only ones in the shop, go for them.

So far, it looks like black is the overwhelming favorite. I'm digging the look of cat0020's setup.

I pulled the trigger on the black Ksyriums.

Thanks everyone!

Oh man, I didn't even notice that. That actually looks kind of sweet to have half black and half white. I take it all back. Oh, and I totally agree with buying what's on sale, especially with something like bar tape. That's why half of my equipment says SETTE on it. Good ol' pricepoint.f

My ti Merckx AX originally had black OP rims w/ silver hubs and spokes. It looked nice. But I recently got new wheels with silver rims, hubs and spokes, and it looks better. Maybe it's just the newness factor, but the all-silver look is sharp. However, if I was offered a great deal on some black wheels, I probably would take it. The bike could looks sharp either way depending on how you build it up -- eg, don't use yellow tires, saddle, etc. That's ugly with ti, IMHO.

Maybe these pictures could offer better view of handlebar, anyone know where I could find a white Selle San Marco ERA saddle?

my previous bike with same bartape and wheels:

Keep the black. Normally I love white anything. I don't know why I just think your bike is so good looking with all that black.
