Newbie bike options
Hey everyone,
I'm in the market for a nice used bike, and I came across 2 today that I wanted your opinions on. Any advice on these two? Do you think either of them would be a good starter bike? Thanks!

Well, you certainly picked two very different bikes...two very different price points, as well.
What do you plan to do with your bike? What are you riding right now?
edit: The Raleigh is a 60cm. There is no size that I can see on the Panasonic. Any idea what size it might be? How tall are you? Do you have any idea what size you would need?

I thought I'd give you guys a challenge.
I will use it for exercise in addition to running. I'll do 3 days run/4 ride, and also for commuting. Eventually I want to get into some racing (hopefully). Right now I'm riding an el-cheapo Wally World mountain bike for exercise, and commuting to class.

I've tried out some bikes, and I fit well on anything from a 58-60. I'm gonna email the Panasonic guy to see what size it is, and get some better shots of it.

If you've got the dough, I'd think the Raleigh would be a serviceable ride.
Or you could buy the Panasonic for $60 off the guy, spend $120 converting it to a fixed gear, and sell it to a hipster (making sure to use the term "NJS") for $400 and then go buy the Raleigh.

Thanks for the advice Vudu! I think I'm going to go check out the Raleigh this weekend. Wish me luck, and I hope to ride with you all soon!

The Raleigh looks to be older than 5 years. Try to talk him down from $400. That's a bit much for that bike.

Start at $250. Settle for around $300. Much more then that and you can get a new bike for just a little more. Maybe not the same component level but it would have a warranty. The Trek 1 series goes for around $700 (last years models would be on sale now) and the Jamis Ventura goes for around $500
