Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Oh, the irony.

So I had been planning for a few days to go for a seventy-two mile ride today (which is relatively long for me). I woke up this morning, looked at the rear tire, and realized it needed a little more psi. Then I realize my pump had been taken with my dad on a trip. I also realize that I could easily go to my LBS to pick up a CO2 cartridge, but I think, "Ehh, **** it; I'll just air it up with that all purpose pump we have. It says it can reach 70 psi . . ."

Obviously the thing lied. I have no idea what pressure it was at but it certainly wasn't what I wanted. I then thought, "Whatever. I look forward to getting stuck in the middle of nowhere." I proceed on with my ride.

Amazingly, throughout my ride, I somehow managed not to pinch or otherwise completely kill my tube.

However... slowing down, I make my turn into my driveway. Going ten miles an hour, I pinch the tube right before my front door.

It made me laugh.

Not sure if that's irony, but I'd surely accept it as the grace of the cycling gods.
