Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New entry into the club:
1996 Bianchi Eros.

The bike is equipped with the original Campagnolo Mirage 8-Speed Gruppo.

The bike was found on Craigslist. It probably had less than 1000 miles on it based upon the condition of the drivetrain. I paid $350 for it.

Upon receiving the bike, I cleaned up the frame, removed the cassette and degreased it. I also changed the inner chainring from a 32t to a 26t. I retaped the handlebars and outfitted the bike with a new stem to allow for a better fit.

New white bottle cages and a seatbag complete the bike. The only other improvement I can see is a new saddle and new pedals. It generally fits her, but she still has to schedule a fitting session.

The wheels are pretty heavy so I have some Mavic Open Sport rims on order which I'll have laced to the original Campy Hubs.

Two more of mine:

One of two Centurions rescued a few days ago and already rolling. I would like to trade it for a slightly smaller frame, it is a 57 or 58 and I prefer a 56, but what the heck:

My new Surly Cross Check taking a rest:

The Pinarello is shy:

My wife's pink Centurion:

Steel is the real thing.

Well, I bought a few of those a couple of years ago at a swap and trade. They are getting hard to find sorta. It is a Silica pump, used to be as common as hen's teeth. Yeah, it is a nice bike, not quite as cherry as it looks there, I have some touch up to do and some work on the wheels but it is a goer as is the red one I just got also and I picked up a black Centurion frame, all darn 58s and I need a 56, wahhhhhhh, wahhhhhhhhh.

Carbon fork, mixing Shimano and SRAM, Shimano and/or SRAM on a De Rosa, etc. Personally, this is my favorite bike out of the 3 I ride.

True. Which is why we have almost no rules here. Else there would need to be some mention of Brooks saddles in the bylaws, a framework of an arbitration process for some offenders All beautiful steel bikes welcome.

I'm in the process of building something (almost) totally new out of my trek 520 frame, it will be quite the compilation of random vintage and modern parts.

Adding "Big Red' to my up and running steel stable:

It is a Centurion Ironman, Tange 1, Shimano 105, new Specialized 25mm tires, spd pedals, Specialized Avatar BG saddle.

Yeah, Big Red is called BIG because it really is a size too large for me (57cm c/c) but within my ride range. It is a good ride, fast and comfortable because I can get the bars up higher than with a bike that "technically" fits me. Big Red is a goer, maybe someday it will get a new home.
