Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: Rampon EL/OS 5700 groupset

Early 90s Rampon, apparently Rampon still sells or build bicycles.
My best guess it's EL/OS tubed, the frame+fork+headest is 2599g. Frame is a clean 54 on both top tube c-c and seat tube also. Apparently it's a sub 2000g frame, nicely done!

Recently I bought an almost new, and an almost complete 5700 groupset for 160euros, only thing I had to buy extra was the front derailer that had to be braze on, and the bottom bracket that had to be italian threaded. I bought 6700 BB, since it was only 2 euros more than 5700. For the front derailer I bough 5700.

Some other components on the bicycle are quite interesting, though my previous iteration of this bicycle was slightly more weight weenie pimped, but some of the stuff remained.
Dura Ace aero seatpost
Madison Prime saddle
3ttt stem (wasn't able to identify it through velobase, but it's lighter than all the others listed there from 3ttt)
Bontrager SRR VR-C compact handlebars for 26.0mm clamp
Fizik 3mm performance black bar tape
Jagwire Road Pro cable/housing set
Ambrosio Balance 32h rims laced to Ultegra 6600 hubs
Vittoria Rubino 700x25c tires
Sigma 12.12 wired cyclecomputer, I put some effort to hide the cable and have it using the rear wheel for the magnet/sensor setup.
Dura Ace 7810 pedals, second hand score, on is pretty much worn out, but the other one is as-new!

The bicycle as pictured weighs 9610 grams (without bidons).

I am curious as how to bring this bicycle under 9000g without going crazy with spending money on upgrades, since I already made some pretty cheap weight weenie scores, like the 219g saddle that sells new for something like 40euros, and the seatpost is 263g, so I doubt I could save anything there, and also, both of these items were pretty cheap.
Wheelset (with QRs) is exactly 2028g, maybe some lighter rims could help bring down the weight a bit, but I really love Ultegra hubs, so if I ever decide to mess with this wheelset, I'll keep the hubs for sure.

I'll probably get a hold of Conti GP4000s some time soon, either 23 or 25c, they bring down some weight, since the Vittorias are something like 600g for this pair.

I'm not overly satisfied with the bar tape, I was accustomed to 2mm microtex from Fizik, but they didn't have it black in the LBS, so I bought this one instead. Is gripper for sure, 1mm thicker, and also I'm afraid that it will be hard to dry after it gets soaked in my sweat or in the rain. But I have it for a couple of days, did some rides, sweat dripped only from my forehead, but my hands were not wet, so I cannot judge for now, how will they dry.

The 5700 groupset set up on this bicycle with Jagwires is absolutely perfect, such precise and clean shifting, I'm totally sold on front derailer perfomance, excellent job by Shimano!
At first I thought the rear derailer housing is too long, but since it shifts flawlessly, I ain't shortening it

Almost finished my 90's Gardin. Picked this up really cheap to commute on. Tore it all apart and cleaned and rebuilt. It came with almost full 6400, minus the brifters which were 2200. I swapped the 2200 brifters for a set of 6400s I found locally, and had to swap the 600 aero post for something a bit longer. It came with Cinelli EXA bars that were too narrow and a too short Cinelli 1A stem. Swapped those for a Deda stem, bars, and post. Saddle and tires are take offs from my Cannondale. It had 6402 pedals, but I don't have any shoes with delta cleats so I put on some A525s I had sitting around until I find a used set of keos. Just need some cables and to put on some tape after adjusting and dialing in the fit.

There is a Clark Kent titanium (approved by Dean Kent himself) with older ultegra for $900 in my area. Is that a good deal? Fits me nice.

Great bike! Is that a 38t inner ring? Which stem adapter are you using?

Thanks. It's a 39t, I've had the adapter for years it's down hard against the headset with a titanium spacer making it look tidier. I've got a shorter adapter in the post to remove the spacer.

ha. Nah, I like the chrome stays and fork. I don't have a bike with chrome stays at the moment, and it's eating me up.

My steel Cervelo has nickle-plated stays, and I was 'devastated' when a guy thought the frame was titanium.

Here's my steel bike as previously posted over in the C&V subforum. The setup shown here was for a Gran Fondo I did last week. It felt funny being in a big ride surrounded by brand new carbon fibre S-Works, Ridleys and Pinarellos but I managed to finish right along with them.

Frame: Cramerotti
Tubing: Columbus Cromor double-butted cro-mo steel
Components: Shimano 105sc except pedals, Shimano 600
Rims: Campagnolo Lambda Strada
Tires: Continental Gatorskin
Spokes: DT Swiss
Seat: Selle San Marco Regal Girardi
Seatpost: Primax
Stem: Cinelli 1A
Handlebars: Cinelli Giro D'Italia

This is my Steel ride that spends most of its time on the trainer.
its an 84 Cello Europa. It came with Shimano 600 but as I upgraded my regular bike I upgraded it and it now has 9 speed Ultegra and mavic CXP 21 rims.
i have a century in four weeks and would have no issue taking this.

Good Lord, that's probably the most handsome, elegant and purposeful bike I've seen in a long time. Wow.

I don't know this Steve Rex guy, but looking at this one and Bostic's "call box orange" one above, it looks like the guy knows his geometry really well. The proportions and angles on this one are so pleasing to my eye, even in that small size.

Can you share any of the geometry numbers with me?

Damn, that's a bike to ride with pride.
