Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Might have to try that one too. Here's my $35 sub 100 gram saddle. Not a lot of time on it but did 65 or so miles on Friday and another 50 today with a heavy backpack, and my arse didn't complain once.

What saddle did you previously ride? I dont think id fit on a 124mm saddle. But im confused about it in general - most of selle italia's saddles are under 135mm in width, and i assume they are selling for wide appeal. Maybe i should try this.

I rode Selle Italia Flites before this. I really thought this saddle would be too narrow, but it works. It was $35 - figured I'd take a shot.

Thanks for the link. have you tried the seller italia's Flight? their first ones from way back. It didn't agree with my fat azz after 2 seasons it had to go. I still can't get over a hard shell only saddle for long rides. What saddles (traditional softer or firm, I should say) have you tried that you liked? Does the Merek feel anything like it? I am ready to get a Specalized or Prologo on my new Ridley. I have not been riding for close to ten years now so I have been out of the loop. Thanks

Bump because the bike finally sits under 15lbs
14lbs 12oz, 6.69Kg w/ pedals and cages.

Wouldn't be that hard to bring it to the 13lbs range -- with a new seatpost, pedal spindles, skewers, and brakes. But that's a lot of $$ for minimal weight savings. Happy with how it is now.

Well, as you can see this saddle has literally no padding, but it's very comfortable. My longest ride on it, i think, was like 50mi. The reason for that is that it is wide enough that it supports my sit bones.

I haven't tried the really narrow ones (124mm, 135mm) because my only experience with saddles like that has been bad. It might be a shape thing - zero padding with a dip in the center might be good for me because it won't allow me to sink down and have blood flow cut off by padding.

I haven't tried the Flite only because of the width, and the fact that it's a lot of money to drop on something that doesn't fit. these are so cheap, though, that i don't think there's much of a risk. just takes a while to get delivered.

I wouldn't mind trying one of those full carbon saddles, but it would have to be shaped/same length/width as the SLR. Took me a really long time to find the right saddle.

they were cheap enough that i bought it just for the hell of it. if you search ebay for "full carbon saddle" you'll find a lot of different options.

i just wish i could find one with a unidirectional finish instead of 3K.

The saddle is perfectly level actually (I used a level), the arms on the bicycle rack aren't level -- check the wheels

hmmm - ok, maybe I'd need to see it on level ground, but it looks like the nose of the saddle is pointing at the top of the steerer...

All this is useless without frame sizes. Mine is 16.08 lbs and is a 58cm. It could probably be under 15 lbs to if I put 303 tubulars, carbon saddle and was a 54cm frame.

If you think about, you're not adding that much with a size or two since most of the weight is not in the middle of the tubes.

Its been a long time since I've posted on here, but I figure now is as good a time as any to jump back in. My R2.5 as she sits right now is 15.7 pounds, and thats with pedals, bottle cages (arundel carbon) a spare tube, and an Aksium rear wheel, as I broke a couple of spokes on my Eurus. I could save a solid pound on wheels if I went bucks up, but since I ride my mountain bike most of the time now, I can't justify it. Shes plenty fine, and maybe next year I'll find an S3 or something, but for now she suits the bill well.

I'll take some clean pics tomorrow and post them up.

Thanks yeah frame sizes don't make that much of a difference, from the stuff i've seen on weight weenies listings for example, the weight difference between a 2004 Scott CR1 Team 54cm and a 2004 Scott CR1 Team 61cm was 130 grams, less than a third of a pound
