Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

bike storage from ceiling

I did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for. I use to hang them from the ceiling with hooks, but with my new garage I have an 11 foot ceiling. I would ideally like to hang the bikes from the ceiling with both tires up. Wall hangers won't work because there isn't enough room along the sides to hang a bike and get the car in the garage. I know I am dreaming actually getting a car in the garage?.

If you have photos that would be great.

With a high ceiling you can use a hoist or simply mount 2 bike hooks on a length of 2x4 and suspend it a few feet lower from the ceiling using chains.

I bought 4 of the bike lifts from Lowes. They work great and I think $25 is very reasonable.

The lifts are great for routine maintenance as well.

My ceiling is 10'-6". IT is the perfect height to keep them well out f the way. For 1 feet I would use a stool. The hoists are nice and they go on sale at Home Depot for $19 after Christmas. But get another pulley to mount near the wall. Otherwise the cord gets in the way.
