Road Cycling Training DVDs ?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Spinervals has a set of three...I have all of them...Not too bad, gives you something to look at and you don't have to listen to Coach Troy barking orders at you. My wife and I watch with the sound down and our fav. tunes pumping out of our MP3 players...

Some of the Bike-O-Vision DVDs are pretty decent for that. The ones that keep the camera pointed up the road the most and break the "virtual reality" the least are St. Croix, Puerto Rico, and Death Valley. Just you and the road with these.

The Spinervals On the Road DVDs are good, too. I like the Tucson Training Rides DVD best of those, but the other two are good, too. With these, you're following the Spinervals guy Coach Troy most of the time although there's also footage from Coach Troy's helmet cam.

I also have a DVD called RIDES: Las Vegas/Valley of Fire that's not quite as "virtual reality" as the others I've mentioned(mainly because of some of the camera angles), but it's nice because it involves a group of cyclists and the workout has you changing what you're doing pretty often which makes the time pass quickly. There's also a Rockies DVD in that series which I'll likely buy sometime.

Real Rides Race Day and now Power are good DVD's that are organized training videos, but different than anything out there. Both have POV camera shots, race day is from a national level crit and power has several simulated road racing situations. The cool thing in power is trying to match Robbie Ventura's power outputs which I can do, but only for about 1/10th of the time that he does each interval.

There are 2 versions of the Tacx dvd's. One is "Video Cycling" that use a regular DVD player and tells you which trainer resistance setting to be in.

The other is "Real Life" DVD's that require the use of higher-end Tacx VR-type trainers; automatically changing the resistance of the trainer and video playback speed amongst other things.
