Help me - Which Wheelset ? Vote Now
Okay Peeps,
I'm 200Lbs and tend to ride in the hills. Which wheelset should I pick .....
Specialised Roval Pavee
Mavic ksyrium Elite
Easton Circuit
Xero Tarmac XPL1
Pleeeease don't suggest others because:
(1) I've so many choices I can't make my mind up, so another won't help
(2) I'm in the UK, so some good wheelsets, such as Neuvation, we don't have
Vote away and if you have any of these let me know what you think.
Ta very much

You fail. Make it a poll. Ksyriums (crazy deals on eBay because the 2008 line is different) or Easton. Haven't heard many fans of the Rovals or the Xero wheels.

Though it was a poll .... I can see one at the top of the page - can you ?
I'm looking at buying in the next couple of weeks, so i guess 2007 Ksyrium Elites (they're in my budget just)

Totally weird, either I'm crazy or it wasn't a poll a few seconds ago. I concede, I fail. What's your budget?

I have set myself between £220 and £270 ... double it for $s
I could probably get some handbuild Mavic Pro CDs on an Ultegra Hub and no doubt there are other choices ... but sooner or later I have to make a choice and so I'm limiting myself to the four above and putting myself in your hands
(well, not your hands specifically)

So, maximum $540 - you could easily get a pair of Ksyrium SLs for less than that in the states but I don't know what the story is in GB, don't sell yourself short on the Elites.
BTW, skip the Open Pros, go with Aeroheads, nicer, lighter (30g a rim), comes in colors, just as strong.

Ksyrium SLs are $800+ here .... and if I import from the USA, the government slaps import Duty, Value Added tax etc... so even an import is outside my budget
Also, Aerohead doesn't seem to be here in the UK - might be wrong, but I haven't seen them in any of the well respected wheelbuilders, like Hewitts, Ribble, Dave Hinde, Langdale etc

Depends what you plan to use the wheels for. The custom-built Ultegra/Open Pro (or dt rr1.1, a better rim) is solid, hard to go wrong with that.
At least here in the US, Specialized gives a 30-day money back, unconditional warranty even on wheels if they are bought through their website; that makes it pretty easy to test the wheels and see if they will work for you. I recently bought some Roval wheels (model is Fusee, a but more expensive than the Pave), and they look to be extremely well-made..ln particular, the workmanship on the rim is superb. But I haven't yet ridden them -- six inches of snow on the ground.
