Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I sipped the Kool-Aid (or, guess what, Pcaddy isn't the only schwagaholic*)

Kind of surprised myself, but for $299, it was worth the try.

Back for the Holidays, and I didn't want to drag my bike home, only to have it to ride on the rollers (if the weather is cr@p).

I've been wanting to get a fixed gear for off season training for ages. Well, the off season is almost over, but you know what I mean (at least some of you do).

Just put it together, and have yet to ride it, so I'll have to get back to y'all on that.

*edit* new pic, with some road grime *edit*

The stems/bars/calipers and flite are from my deceased Pinarello. The stock stem and saddle were as worthless as a bucket of warm spit.

I'll probably put two brakes on, but for the time being an NOS Shimano 600 is going on. I'll also be putting a 42 on the front.

A couple of notes about BD:
  • I ordered on the weekend, and the shipped on the Monday, with the bike arriving on the Thursday. Not bad.
  • The email support was so-so.

*Only difference is that I'm a more discerning customer than PCaddy.

Have you decided on what messenger bag to get yet?
When you upgrade the wheels, what color Deep V rims are you getting.

Here are some important training videos for you to watch.

seeing as i was (ever so briefly) a messenger 17 years ago, and riding a FG bike in NYC back then was what got me into the sport, I've already got a decent collection of messenger bags with worn out corners.

The wheels will be fine. No need to put lipstick on this pig.

Exactly! Except I'd like to keep the old Chorus brake calipers.

Definetely should've gotten the Kilo TT. But track bikes are awesome, ride it hard. IIRC, the cog on the Kilo TT was awful, likely for the teeth to come unattached from the threading, at least get a Soma or something.

the only plus i saw on the kilo was the aesthetics of the fork, and i plan on putting an old CF Look fork i've got on the windsor.

If you want an inexpensive wheel upgrade -
https://shop.greatdealsonbikes.com/me...tegory_Code=TR

are pretty darn nice for the money, though I think they may just be a rim upgrade now that I look at the Hour specs.

a brake?
TWO brakes?
drop bars and hoods?
a comfortable saddle?
a sensible saddle to bar drop?
road clipless pedals?
no top tube protector?
keeping the stock wheels instead of "upgrading" to an Aerospoke and Phil/neon Deep V combo?
fenders?!!??&^^$%

Sorry, dude but you're doing it wrong. It almost looks as if you intend to ride that bike.

You gonna change to a smaller gear? Looks like you're pushing something like 81 gear inches.

I just bought a Kilo TT and I'm very happy with it. Although, in a nod to the hipster crowd, I put bull-horns on mine (put I'm still rockin' road pedals)

Just from personal experience, most 'hipsters' rock track drops or risers. Bullhorns are actually useful for stuff.

I ride my fixed gear with 81 gear inches. I don't ride it to work on my cadence. I use it to go fast.
