Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm willing to bet he doesn't. There are a lot of cyclists out there who figure they and their bicycles will dissolve if a drop of water hits them.

As for the question of what I use to clean my bicycle ..... I use water ... and detergent. Well, water and Simple Green, or water and Avon Bubble Bath, or water and whatever dishsoap I can find.

I use water and dish soap. A pressure washer would not be a good idea around bearings, but soap and low pressure water is fine.

Dish soap will remove the wax, if there is any on it. If you have wax on the bike use soap made for washing cars. It leaves the wax intact.

The only thing I heard is do not use a strong spray of water by the bottom bracket. Other than that you have to use water to wash the bike, just make sure you dry it.

Try not to nail any seal or bearings with the high pressure stuff.
Personally, I use a spray bottle with generic glass cleaner and a rag for all but the most egregious filth.

The finish on most bikes is akin to that on automobiles. Consider that for a moment. It's more robust than you think.

I mist my bikes with a fine spray that is aimed upward so that it falls gently on the bike. (go ahead and laugh. Hmmph) I wash it with auto wash, which is gentler to paint. Fine mist them again, then dry. Finally I give them some Zaino.

The road bike doesn't get Zaino, it gets Lemony Pledge.

Then lube.

409, especially on the rims of the wheels to get the brake grit off.
