Dressing Well for 52 Fahrenheit
Left for a 20-mile ride at 2:30 pm.
Conditions: Cloudy, 52f, 3-4 mph wind, 58% humidity
Went with the following: Full finger gloves (not heavy winter weight), long sleeve Wal-Mart brand UnderArmour base layer, long sleeve regular weight jersey, sleeveless shell, bib shorts, heavy socks, toe warmers (just toes, not full shoe cover), good layer of chapstick on the lips.
Perfect. Was just a little chilly to start, then warmed up nicely and sweated lightly for the ride....
Don't you like it when you get that right?

I would be sweating profusely.
You must be cold-blooded.
In 52*F weather I'd be rocking a short-sleeve base-layer, short-sleeve jersey, arm-warmers and bib-shorts.

That's the perfect choice for any temperature.
I never forget to put it on or put in in the jersey pocket. Taking it out of the jersey pocket before laundry used to be a major issue
I have been better remembering though since beginning to stash the chapstick in a ziplock bag. Salty-tasting chapstick wasn't doing the trick.

It won't be that balmy here until May.

At 52 I'd probably go with bib shorts, open fingered gloves, no shoe covers, a shortsleeve jersey and possibly arm/knee warmers, but probably not.

wow...that's a lot of clothing for 52F. I will wear a short sleeve jersey and arm warmers with bibs and standard 1/2 finger gloves...no need for toe covers or booties at that temp.

I would ride naked except for one of these:

Well I had almost the same conditions today for my ride. 53* with 16-20 mph winds. I had on a short sleeve UA shirt, long sleeve dry fit jersey, bibs and leg warmers. Most of the ride is heavily shaded and there were actually a couple of spots about 2/3rds of the way into the ride where it actually got colder.
Guess how you dress all depends on where your at and from...

that's a firm.
might be a symptom of geezerhood: at my age (47) it seems like the cold bites a little harder a little sooner...

How not to dress for similar weather (yesterday in Philly, maybe 48 degrees and breezy):
Wear nothing but shorts, a short sleeve shirt, a windbreaker vest, no gloves/kneewarmers. I did this yesterday thinking "gee, I'll warm up in no time", and suffered the whole 30 miles. I was too stubborn to turn back, but by the end of it I was extremely unhappy, and my feet and hands were numb.
