Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Maybe you should develop less picky buttocks, or accept that the problem isn't the saddle....

You're the first person to bring up free...

The correct order is 1) read the thread 2) post smartass comment

I read the thread.

Posts 13-17 reference and allude to free testing.

Even without the "free" - its still alot to ask.

I stand by my comments.

Free, brought up by an outside vendor spamming the thread with no relation to the original post... but whatever.

Performance & Terry both let you order a truckload of saddles, try them out, and return them -- all of them, if none make your ass happy -- for a full refund.

For what it's worth:

Performance has a satisfaction guarantee. This applies to saddles. My idea was to purchase 3-4 saddles, try them, and return the ones I didn't like for refund. I asked specifically about that strategy and was told by email that they have a satisfaction guarantee for all their products, including saddles.

Neuvation has a satisfaction guarantee for their saddles specifically stated on their web site.

My local Bontrager dealer told me that they have a satisfaction guarantee on their Bontrager saddles. I don't know if this is a standard Bontrager policy or the shops.

it isn't hard to get saddles to try. You might pay return postage, but that's the way it is whenever you buy a "fit" item by mail order. I've done that many times with shoes, clothing, and a lot of other products. Wasn't happy? Returned it.

Good to know as I just bought one their ars hatchet named the toupe gel. I feel as if I am riding with my seat bones on top of 2 nails.

Got the same saddle (and later read that many people around here think the gel version feels harder than the non-gel one!). I like the Toupe now, but it took a while to find the right saddle angle - 30 days should certainly tell you if it's going to work out for you or not.

95+% of the discomfort I feel on it now is when sitting on the hoods. It is on my sit bones only. My taint feels perfect though. When I get on the drops, it feels good everywhere! What is funny is that the saddle I used previously was a Selle Italia SLR. It felt extremely comfortable until about mile 35-40 where I would have to stand every few minutes to relieve pressure from my taint. From there on, it would hurt a bit on the taint for the remaining of the ride. So, it took me a good 3 weeks or so to feel pretty uncomfortable in it, but I guess after 3000 miles in it it felt OK despite the pain in the taint. This one hurt from the first 100m on it and just got worse as the ride goes on.

I had seriosly thought about getting the Selle Italia Kit Carbonio as it has the SLR shape, but it has a cut out for the taint pressure. I am guessing that is what is relieving my pressure there now with the Toupe.

Looking to replace my Selle Italia Carbonio, I took advantage of the program from Competitve Cyclist. If you choose to purchase a saddle from them, which I did, you receive a $35 credit towards your saddle. It is a good program, and what I like most is the customer service, request of feedback for program improvement, and generally good attitude their reps.

The saddles arrive in a "bullet proof," Pelican case and when you are done, or have gotten to the return date, you just drop off the case at your local UPS store with the supplied pre-paid label. I don't know if it has been mentioned, but they also have a similar program for wheels and bikes.

After solicitation of feedback, I suggested, that they either lengthen the demo period, or allow you to narrow your choices for less of an investment, and/or, a larger credit towards purchase. Overall, I was very pleased and ended up going with the Selle Italia Gel Flow SLR.

Regards!

Actually, if the $75 includes postage both ways and a possible $35 off the purchased saddle, it seems like a pretty good deal to me. It would be an even better deal if (a) you could pick your selection of saddles and (b) you could somehow modify the trial period - maybe make it longer. That is not enough time for me to test that many saddles as I would like to do at least a couple 20-30 mile or longer rides on each, and I just can't ride that much in that short a time.
