Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sports Instruments HRM + Computer?

Anybody have any experience with this. I was about to buy a new transmitter for my archaic Polar Vantage XL (was a really nice HRM back in the day) but the transmitter costs $40 alone and I noticed I could get an SI-90 HM from Performance for $30. It won't store my heartrate every 6 seconds like my Polar will, but it records time in, above, and below the target zone, and it's a wireless computer to boot so my handlebar won't be as cluttered.

So, anybody have anything to say about this brand or model, good or bad?

Someone PMed me to call Polar because they have a trade-in program. It's 20-30% off a new one when you send them your old one. That's a nice program, but I would be paying $80 to give up a $400 heart rate monitor (it can record your heart rate at 1, 6, and 10 second intervals iirc) for one with less functions. I'm leaning towards just getting a new transmitter so I can keep using the old one. They were very helpful in verifying that the current model transmitter will work with my old watch.

edit: everyone seems to be out of stock on the transmitter, so maybe I'll give the SI a try. If it sucks, I can always return it and buy the transmitter.

I have two Sports Instruments HRM's. No problems other than it's a bit tricky to open the watch to change batteries.
