Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is it possible to find a wheelset that weighs less than 1350g for under $500? Thanks.

Look to eBay for American Classic Sprint 350's - if you want sub 1400g, you'll need the Sapim spoke upgrade and weigh less than 180lbs.

The retail on these is 750.00, plus 100.00 (If I remember correctly) for the spokes.

A good pair that cheap and that light? You could steal a pair for much less than $500, but otherwise no.

The guy who runs the shop (out of Singapore) is also a user here on BF, occassionally showing up on the Road Forums. You can PM the guy to get more info/personal questions... I think the user is soulbike, but I could be wrong.

Not sure if you're bent on riding clinchers or not and why 1350 is your benchmark, but it's not too hard to get tubulars under 1400g.

GVH bikes has teh AC-350s on sale for $450. I have a pair and they weigh 1390 w/o rim strips (15g ea) or skewers....this is still a pretty good price on these wheels!

Aerodynamics pwns lightness unless you're climbing mountains everyday. Even then.

After some researching I found that unless you are a climber or climb a lot, low weight wheels won't benefit you that much.

If there's one thing I learned quite well, it's that neither type of wheel helped me that much. I was slow no matter what equipment I was on. Upgrading the engine does more than any wheel ever can.

My best races were on light tubulars, though. I'll continue to use those even though I have no information to back it up.

Now I'm confused whether to get the soulbike superlight wheels or swing for some of their semi aero wheels which are a little heavier but have atleast a 30mm rim.

cue argument that aero benefits don't take effect until XXmm deep.
