Does anyone use this?

Do you use it to pre-treat your tires? Or do you wait till you flat?

Do you carry a can with your folded spare?

As I wait for my group buy tubular wheels to arrive, I was wondering if I need to buy 3 cans of this...2 for the tires mounted and 1 for the spare???

ps yes, i have searched. The search feature still works. I have searched this forum, Weight Weenies, and Roadbike review.com. I have read all the relevant topics found, and I still want to solicit current opinions based on real experiences of others...

I used it once and it worked.

I had a brand new conti comp on the back wheel. Rode a race, it rained and I got a puncture. That night I filled it with the pit stop, managed to get it to work, cleaned up the mess and it still holds air fine 1 year later.

I am not sure as I only spent about an hour or so on the tyre before the flat, but I think it makes the tubular worse to ride feeling wise, once you have filled it up with the stuff. Maybe it is just the conti comp that feels bad? I use them any chance I get as i want it to wear out faster and get replaced.

Let me share with you my awful experience with Pit stop. I had a puncture last saturday with a very small shard of a broken bottle. the puncture is about 2.5mm and after following the instructions to the letter...it did not fix my puncture. Maybe it works in smaller punctures but for me its just not good enough to risk it as you can't predict what type of puncture you will get.

Thats just my experience with it. Hope I am the only one.

I have used it once and it worked great. I got a small puncture just before a race, rolled back to the truck and put the pitstop in. I raced the rest of the year on it. Now I carry one in my jersey on RR where it may take a while to get wheel support.

I just got to use it, and it worked great. Totally saved the ride, and fixed the flat such that I'm still riding on it a week later. It didn't inflate as much as I wanted, so I had to add air, but Pitstop plus a small pump or CO2 would be perfect. The biggest advantage is for cold weather riders; no need to take your gloves off to use it. On a 15 F ride, that means a lot.

don't use it until you flat. over time, the latex based foam hardens up and its ability to seal on the fly lessens. Also, as someone pointed out earlier -- it does affect ride quality. Marginally, but since it does add a slight amount of weight / rotating mass -- folks that are sensitive might be able to pick up on it

I think I am about 1 for 4 in having it work. I worked once on a group ride, and everyone was impressed. But other times it hasn't worked. For me it leaks where the nozzle attaches to the can, and makes a big mess, and you don't know how much is getting in vs. spilling out. The latex cans with a hose (you can see the flow in) and a tight presta screw on attachment work better, but are heavier and bulkier.
