Cat 4/5 riders
Those of you that do cat 4/5 races, do your bikes get weighed in before/after races? I know the UCI has the 6.8kg limit, so does that pertain to cat 4/5 as well or just the professional riders? I'm not sure completely how the governing body works and the rules that apply. The only reason I ask is I'm looking at a new bike build and I'm just curious how light I can make it without being too light since I am going to do my first race this spring. Hope my question doesn't sound too idiotic.

technically I think the rule applies (see rulebook above)
but the officials have a hard time getting the basics covered and rarely get people for tech issues that arent blatent saftey problems.

I already have a road bike and have been riding for some time, 5yrs now. I have finally decided that I want to do some races and want to get myself a bike that I will use for racing/fast group rides. Nothing wrong with wanting to be a ww is there?

The only equipment regulation going on I've ever seen happen is a roll out for juniors. You could always add ice inside your seat tube.

+1 - I personally have never been to a race where there are even remotely enough resources to begin even thinking about weighing bikes....let alone weighing a CAT IV or V bike.

EDIT: Oh, but I did see a CAT V rider get yelled at for wearing a sleeveless base layer as his jersey. "Get a jersey with sleeves or go home."
